looking to do my 1st trackday, anyone recommend somewhere, not just Knockhill, that is within a 4hr drive or so of Glasgow and is newbie friendly?

How about Croft? 174 miles from Glasgow, according to google maps, and good for all skill & experience levels.

or Teesside autodrome same distance give or take a couple of mile we hired the track to ourselves for a test day (need a roll cage for test day) for £75 they also run trackdays small but good fun.

There's not a great deal up here unfortunately. Knockhill is good, although maybe a bit daunting for a complete beginner. East Fortune is a great little track, but sadly it doesn't look like it'll get used again any time soon...

Other than that, you'll have to head south, Elvington near York might be your best bet, it's an airfield so plenty of room to explore the limits of your car. BookATrack and Javelin seem to have days there occasionally.

East fortune is a great little track did it in feb this year with javelin spot on, hope they get things sorted would love to go there again.
