Got a bit of a surprise today, my oil pressure gauge dropped to zero and I got an alert up on the diagnostics saying something like sensor or indicator fault. Seems to have cleared now and hasn't recurred. Anyone had this before? Worth a trip to my OPC to ask them to check it out? My car under extended warranty and haven't had anything to claim yet!!!!

Also as an aside, are there any issues with going to a different OPC for warranty work or do you have to go through the one who did the pre-check? My check was done through the Edinburgh OPC because the indie I bought from down there did me a deal through them but my local OPC is Aberdeen and I'd prefer to use them for servicing/warranty issues.

Ps. playing with posting photos also......

Absolutely yes... If the car develops a fault and you haven't had the sensor rectified you'll get shafted as it'll be logged in the ECU. I would ring them first thing Monday.

hi there

had this on a 996 turbo suspected oil pressure warning sensor but when i got down to changing it i found that the wiring to the sensor was loose as the engine had been out previously and not put back properley...

9/10 times it will be the sender unit for the oil pressure the instrument cluster has registerd a fault because the pressure has dropped to zero and then brings red display on ...

Cheers for the replies. Best phone up the OPC tomorrow I s'pose.

Mike - I thought that the sender was the most likely culprit, but now you mention the loose connection and given how transient the fault was I guess that is also a possibility, either way when you pay through the nose for extended warranty....in she goes!

It may be worth checking if your dealer wants to come out to the car.

I had an oil pressure problem --- warning light coming on with a VW Lupo.

Took it to my dealer, dealer replaced the faulty oil pressure switch, three months later it happened again and I assumed that the switch was faulty agin ---- not connected correctly or ?

Car seemed to be going fine, made a note to take it to the dealer when convenient, oil reading full and new oil from the service only weeks before, and the engine siezed on the motorway.

OEM didn't want to know even though FSH with them. I stumped up the cost of a complete engine rebuild -- new oil pump, new hydraulic tappits, plus quite a few other things totalling £2000 --- and they said they couldn't find any cause.

However, after the rebuild the engine was using an awful lot of oil, so I part-exed it for an Audi A2.

Sorry to worry you.
