Always loved these and now really fancy on to go in the stable next to the land rover.

Should I, and what should I be looking for?

Yes you should, and you should be looking for something that's been well maintained, where the electrics ALL work (everything, test every last switch, air con, EVERYTHING) and over and above that it depends how much you want to spend.

The GTS is lovely but i don't think it's worth the premium it commands, so i think i would be looking for an 87/88/89/90/91 S4 (auto) or GT (man).

If you do, please make sure you budget a couple of grand a year for service and maintenance. They are lovely cars but do have a propensity for bits and pieces to go wrong. Look for a complete service history and a car that has been used, high miles arent a problem if its been looked after. The www.928.org.uk/ website is very helpful in understanding and buying cars and their mailing list is a fantastic source of help and advice. Good luck, i keep meaning to sell mine but can never quite face doing it.

Hi

I run the 928 PCGB Forum...www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tt.asp?forumid=129

Any advice needed just ask....

As has been said...GTS hold a big premium...but an S4 or a very late S2 (HAS S4 brakes and suspension...)

928 Owners are very friendly..most will come with you to check out one near them.....I certainly will

They DO like being driven.....mechanically they are bulletproof (400.000 miles is not unusual so mileage is unimportant)

The electrics are the weak point.....things like ...boot release...window motors etc..so check them ALL..

When I go out in the morning (daily driver) and that huge V8 rumbles into life...it puts a smile on my face every time.....how many cars can you say that about

All the best Brett

Lots - I have never owned a car that didn't put a smile on my face. (Well, OK, my Mk3 Golf GTi made me sad every time I started it as it was dire, but every other car has put a smile on my face every time.)

But, back to the topic, a good 928 is a thing of joy. Yes, you should buy one, but you should also go into it with your eyes open, buy a good one (as bad ones cost LOTS of money to fix) and budget for serious fuel cost.

I love these cars. Absolutely timeless looking.

Be careful not to leave the handbrake off by the side of a lake...

Thanks for the advice, time to start hunting, like you say getting a good one to start with will be 90% of the battle.

Always loved 928's time to get one into the stable...
