Heres one for you:- Bought new tax disc for "the Beast" recently. Thinking about selling it (for something faster) so only got 6 months. Upon affixing it to the Beast, realised they had given me a 12 month tax disc (exp. 08/02) with 6 months written on it. What does this mean? Will I get a reminder in 6 months? Can I bluff it legally until next August? Has this happened to anyone else? Have I got one over on Mr Blair and his mates?

if you get a reminder for renewal in six months I think you'll have to get a new one (otherwise you'll have problems with SORNs when you do get another). If you don't get a reminder, chances are you'll be on their systems as having paid for 12 months.

I had a reminder for my car even tough it was still taxed, I rang them, told them it hadn’t run out and they amended their records. Might be worth a try, my tax was free anyway so don’t know if it makes a difference.

Did you pay for 6 months or a year? Sounds like you got a good deal. Your car is taxed, and if you're stopped, the disc is in date, so you cannot possibly be committing a crime. You didn't notice the writng, did you - you were unaware of the mistake, so there is no fraud, IS THERE?!!

same thing happened to me about 2 years ago, they asked for the disc back, I ignored the letter, nothing ever happened.

Wasn't that just before SORN came in though ?

Being caught out by that would be my concern...

I had the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago. I didn't notice that the licence given to me was for a year while I only paid for 6 months. Later that day I had a member of the Post Office staff knock on my front door with a corrected replacement disk. I said it was a shame for me that the mistake was noticed. I was informed that the licence issued to me originally was invalid - as the written text on the disk didn't match the printed date - as such, unfortunately, your car isn't taxed!
