Bought my first 911 a fews weeks back and am having problems getting the seat into a comfortable position and seem to be getting real back pain after about 45 mins or so in the car (which is gutting as I truly love it!!).

I suffer with back problems but havent had any issues for ages as I have been driving very comfortable cars for a few years (BMW 540, Jag S-Type etc). Seems to be flairing up again and can only put it down to my new car........ Thought I would be OK as the 911 is one of the more comfortable sports cars I tested.

I am totally gutted but beofre I look at selling it does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? (helpful ones!!)

Cheers all!!

I believe Porsche have/had an upholstering service for this sort of thing... IIRC Dazren knows something about it but I can't remember the details.

I guess you've tried any lumbar support tricks etc? You can get additional cushions for that too.

If it is a modern 911 you may find sports seats are different to regular seats - and so want to try the one you haven't got to see if it helps.

If you can talk to a bone/back expert and discuss your needs with them you may be able to contact a trimmer and try some extra foam in the right places which you could get him to build in.

An Osteopath will sort you out with how your posture should be, wha support you need, where and whether or not in their expert opinion your driving position will alleviate pressure on the affected areas.

I had just the same issue in April this year when I got my 911. Seriously considered selling the car since like you I was in pain on longer runs and for quite a while after getting out fo the car. My Dad said he had had the same problem with a few cars and it had always gone away after a few weeks. Turned out in my case he was right.

Interesting post this one as I too suffer from lower back problems, and need to have myself realigned on occasion by my back specialist. I was very concerned when I bought my GT3 that my back would be buggered in no time, especially as it had bucket seats.

Well I have to say I have been totally astonished by their comfort, and having just done 2,500 miles to France and back last week I can say I have given it a good solid test. At first they felt terrible, because they were so different, but over time my body has become use to them and they are very supportive and upright, which I think is important. A laid back style is no good for backs!

Might be worth a try??

All I need to do now is plan a better way of getting in and out when my car is in a tight space, that does cause me pain and I have already twisted my knee once!

I believe that David Nunn at southbound may be able to help, as I know that he has done some adjustments to seats in other porsche models.
He only does Porsche, so it rather an authority on what can and cannot be done.
Call and have a chat, he is very helpful, and decide from there.

It is not just the seat that causes problems. I had a RHD Carrera that always gave me back ache due to the offset pedals.

I have switched to LHD a couple of years ago and had no Siatica since.

Both cars also have Recaro buckets which are the most comfortable car seats I know.

The standard Porsche seat I found to be good too. If it is lower back problems it could be pedal offset that is the problem.

Well I spoke to David Nunn at southbound and he was a very knowledgeable guy (and a very nice one at that!). He suggested looking at Recaro Sports seats with the climate pack.

Sounds like a decent idea but I dont know if this will cure the problem or if I will fit into them (they seem a little more fitted than the seats that are in there!!). Only problem is it will cost me £3K to find out...........

Women routinely have silicon bags surgically shoved in their mams to fit their clothing better.

I was thinking maybe blokes could have the middle part of their torso surgically removed in order that they fit their cars better.

My own car gives me grief, but only after two or three hours. I do have a history of back problems but like they say "I'm worth it". hehe

Hope you get it sorted!
