My 2004 986 Boxster S has 32000 miles on it. The clutch has become heavy, and vibrates slightly on the first inch of travel. It does not slip however. Is the clutch on the way out or could it be something else?

I have the same problem and like you, the clutch doesn't slip... i read on another forum, by chance, that this is not so uncommon and could mean that the 'clutch power spring' has gone which apparently is considerably cheaper than a new clutch... may be worth checking out?

I just don't see the point in replacing a clutch if it isn't slipping.

You could try Jaz in Wembley (NW London), who I'd recommend, if you don't mind a drive.

I can't believe I'm saying this...

If the clutch is being done have them check the RMS while they're at it. If it's weeping at all it makes sense to replace it at the same time. Only adds a few quid to the bill and I would say it's sensible preventative maintenance.

RMS - is that the rear main seal? If so I have had that done under warranty some time ago during a service

Yup, it's the rear main seal. If you've got a warranty fair enough... As the bulk of the cost of the RMS is labour though it makes sense to get it checked at the same time.

I had the clutch and RMS replaced on my 2.5 Boxster a couple of years ago for £365 ish! Bargain! Not sure if they made a mistake on the invoice!
