Anyone thinking of buying this game, wait for a few weeks or months.

It's good. Bloody good. Different from NWN 1. But, like its predecessor v1.0 and v1.01 (an 86Mb patch) are rather buggy, it seems to be having feirce issues with graphics cards thoughout Nvidia and ATi's ranges (oddly enough my 'ancient' GeForce Go 6800 Ultra has been admirable, some poor sod with a 7800 had the game just go mental).

But I'm playing it at the momment and it will be an utter stonk.

Similiar to Dungeon Siege 2?

Didn't know it had been released tbh.

What I REALLY want is a Dungeon Master-esque 1st person/group crawl.

In terms of gameplay its similiar to Oblivion (an indepth rpg) - although it is 3rd person. It's based off AD&D iirc.

I'm assuming that Dungeon Siege 2 was a "throw it out the door and patch it later" affair? If so I'd say have to say yes

I know, it was sheduled for 2007... summer 2007 from what I remember reading late last year / early this year, NWN came out to a pretty major fanfare, adverts on-line, big store displays the works. Most of the people I worked with were waiting for it to be released (we had one of the dept. throw a sickie and head off to get 5 copies of the game for the rest of us), but NWN2 I hadn't even realised it was out until someone mentioned it in my "what you looking forward to in 2007" thread. Then again I've got to say... the standard package is very not CRPGy. Single DVD case, with a quickie guide and the rest of it as a PDF (but they don't bundle Acrobat Reader... nice).

Considering it's using a heavily teaked Auroura engine (same as NWN 1) it shouldn't be as fussy or as twitchy as it apparently can be according to the forums.

So something like Oblivion with multiplayer parties and maybe a DM interface? A lot of people asked Bioware for a 1st person camera hack for NWN and NWN 2, it didn't happen.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the fundemental game is a turkey, to be perfectly honest I got it this morning and have been playing it on & off all day (2/3 through act 1... I think... playing a mage so die a lot at the momment lol). I just get the horrible sensation that I'm playing a beta if you know what I mean?

Yup - performance is shocking. I've had to turn all kinds of things off that my PC should eat for breakfast just to get it running at an acceptable framerate. It's a worrying, not to mention bloody annoying, trend we're seeing for games being rushed out the door in such a poor state just to meet some marketing deadline. At least it's not as bad as Gothic 3: that was an unplayable mess at release. It's had two big patches so far but still needs a lot of stuff fixing. grumpy

The other problem you have is that written in to deals can be the number of patches a company can make for a game. Homeworld 2 needs another patch for a few balancing issues and a few missions that are near impossible or bugged on specific configs. Contract said one patch, that's all the game got.

So you can end up with marketting flogging a crappy mess because people will buy it and then nobody being able to ever fix it properly due to contract specs (of lack of payment, or lack of interest).

List of Annoyances in the game:
Clothing.
Familiars (Limited choice compared to original).
Performance issues.

What's with not showing the hats in-game?
I'm starting to get *really* irritated with the loading times. My PC isn't the fastest, but it's taking longer and longer and longer...quick-saving is now taking about 5 minutes. There are too many cut-scenes for my liking - it's OK if your PC is loading the modules quickly, but between some of the bigger maps, I can go away, make a cup of tea and come back and is *still* won't have loaded - and then to find I have to watch loads of cut scenes and then face another lot of loading before I get to the map...gah....

Having said that I am still enjoying it

How much RAM have you got? If you've got a gig or less I strongly suggest you add some more. 2 gig will make a huge difference to loading times for most games.

Ok. I'm going to go flat out rant now. Sorry.

What is this peice of junk? The game is fine... I quite like the game.
I mean. THE TOOLSET!
The crowing glory of NWN has always been the toolset, simple to use and extremley powerful! With the latest patches and CEP installed it was very easy to create custom content, from simple Hack N' Slash dungeons for you and some mates to lark about in through to custom clothing, outfits and the like.
This new toolset is an utter joke. I'm fighting with it just to put the start point! I've tried making outdoors areas and indoor areas but I can't even select the tileset to use nor the terrain type... their is no way in hell the devs used THIS to create the game.
I throught "Hey, I hate this crappy Wizards robe" so I fire up the toolset and decide to create a little level for myself, No can do old girl.
