mines got just a whisker over 90,000 miles on it, and other than the cambelt tensioner i have had no problems.
see www.sportsalfa.com for FAQ's and general q's.

Pretty much.

whats the performance like?

Depends what you're comparing it to but plenty nippy enough.
Alfa's claims of 6.5 0-60 and 155 all out are just about spot on.

Not good - I average about 18mpg around town and 25ish on the motorway. Can get up to about 28/29 if driving very very carefully (but where's the fun in that?)

i used to work for an automotive retention sytems company analysing in alfa romeo aftersales service about 5 years ago and all i recall is how shoddy the service was and how the 156's used to break down a lot

though i seen these cheap alfa 3.0 v6's and they still look nice and they are fast

definitely better than my saab i think

My 2001 GTV 3.0 has never broken down, infact never had a fault. Don't believe the hype about Alfa Romeo being unreliable, a friend of mine has had BMW's,Audi etc and they all had problems.

Go for it! As long as it has been serviced it'll be a great car.

Just don't use an Alfa Romeo service centre for servicing - there's plenty of good independents out there.

I get mine serviced etc at a local independant and have had had no issues. Alfa prices can be scary!

not really as long as all the usuals are dealt with, cambelt, bushes etc etc.
the engines are really bombproof, but check for oil leaks around the oil cooler (expensive to fix) and any tappet noises.
mines done 94k and still as tight as ever.
only costed me 2 wishbones and front bushes so far @ £200

Am also tempted by one of these, having found myself abruptly on the lookout for a new car. They do look good, and depreciation from new makes these quite a bargain (provided it levels off a bit now). But, the reliability and servicing does concern me. Looking on the linked forum above, the technical pages do seem to have a few tales of woe...but then I am coming from Toyota ownership so pretty much everything will appear less reliable and costly to maintain at first sight.

Nevertheless, am largely reassured that low mileage + FARSH + tlc = few if any problems. So, guess will go have a look around at what's available. There's a nice looking Cup in the PH classifieds at the moment, for example.

Few quick questions, if anyone can be arsed (and if I may rudely butt in) with reference to the 3.0 -

Is it fairly torquey low-mid range? I'm hoping a 'yes' answer will round off a wholly impressive V6 experience cool

What's the cabin noise like a) "cruising" and b) during ahem, spirited driving?

What's the handling and turn in like, given that it's a large engine above front driven wheels?

The front seats - I've read they have all the lateral support of a park bench?

Many cheers, S

Specialist SH as opposed to FARSH is actually preferable!

Yes. So much so that I, for one, tend to get a bit lazy and in daily driving rarely get into the "fun zone" beyond 4k rpm

With a standard exhaust and cats in place, (a) fine and (b) lovely! ears

A lot better than you'd expect. Ultimately it will understeer but the point at which that starts to happen is a lot further away than you expect. The sweet chassis and trick rear suspension (passive rear wheel steer) means that, up to a point, the faster you yank it into a corner the harder it works for you.

biglaugh Indeed. Be thankful for sitting in the driver's seat - at least you have the steeering wheel to hang onto!
