I was pulled on the M4 doing 99, pinged by on of those LT 20/20 jobbies. It was 11.50 pm, very dry conditions on the 5 lane bit of the Severn Bridge approach. The 2 cops that pulled me were the epitome of wit and charm "Have you got your pilot's license sir ?"... My how I laughed.

I explained that one of the blokes in the car had already been sick and that I was anxious to get him home to Wiltshire before he got any worse and the cops did report this in their statement.

I am in court on Tuesday next week and at the moment I am intending to plead guilty. I have not appointed a brief because I'm not convinced that they add much value in this sort of circumstance. My biggest problem is that I have 8 points on my license for an AC20 from almost 3 years ago. This in itself was a ludicrous situation as it resulted from my wing mirror brushing against the back of this guys car at 5mph in rush hour traffic.

A ban would be devastating as I am divorced and travel about 15 miles to see my 4 year old son on a regular basis. My ex is not likely to be helpful in bringing him to me. Should I get a brief in on this one, duty solicitor or just try and explain my circumstances in my own words.

All suggeestions appreciated.

Speak to a solicitor you can use 'special reasons' for not getting a ban if you would loose your job etc.

Thanks John. My employer is providing me with a letter to that effect anyway.

Am I allowed to tell the magistrate that I have 8 points on my license before sentence is passed?
