Hello Wise people !

I'm looking to start racing next year (Budget of £10K or so). I'm quite a big lad (17 stone). It's not ALL fat, I have quite broad shoulders, so single seaters are not an option.

I fancied tintops 205s/Fiestas, even Fiat Unos, but I would Like a Ride/Drive deal. I have no space or mechanical ability for my own car.

I've only found one place on the web that can help (and that soon gets up to 15K).

Has anyone any better suggestions ??

Any help greatly appreciated.

P.S Anybody want to buy my TVR

Kevan Gore KG55 has a uniroyal beetle challenge car that he'll rent you a seat in for that kind of budget.

on an arrive and drive basis.

Don't know where you are, but if you were down here it'd be worth talking to a few independant race teams such as Topcats. I know they do race car rental including a full 'turn up and drive' arrangement.

if tyou have heard of stock hatch 750 motorclub
there are a few lads there that rent stuff
kevin hutton has a 106 also mike top has an xr2
both would be good to get the first race out of the way and then progress up to something a bit more lively.
it realy is different to driving on the road!!
good luck with it anyway.

Why not race in the Production BMW Championship? A great series racing E30 BMWs with grids of more than 30 in identical cars. There are a number of people offering drives in well prepped cars within your budget. Check out www.selocmotorsport.com and sign up to the forum for more details.

At the time I picked mine up there were a few around for £3k ish. I picked mine up for £2k but needed a head gasket doing, it had done 2 seasons already but was in good nick. I put another £1500ish into it. Skimmed the head, race exhaust, brake upgrade, improved seat etc. etc.

There are a few cars from the 2006 series up for grabs from £5k upwards, but they're all top spec top 5 cars, well worth the money, I can only guess there will be the odd £3k car my raise it's head in the new year but at the moment it's looking less likley...

PS - I'd highly recommend it as a race series, plus there are 2 or 3 people offering arrive and drive deals.

Thanks guys I'll look into these. The BMWs and 106s look especially tempting.

To go back to your original question, there are a couple of people doing Arrive & Drive packages for 2007 in the Production BMW Championship... Drop me a line if you want me to put you in touch with 'em...

There are also a number of BMW E30 325's and BMW E36 318's up for grabs or for hire in the Kumho BMW's, same sort of thing as Production BMW's but faster with a ladder of progression, alot of the cheaper series are not as cheap as you might think, best way IMO opinion is to buy a car and find a mechanic or professional company to support you on an ad hoc basis, works out about the same but you are more in control
