As this is a car/motoring website I think it would be a good idea to show the cars which members drive/own underneath the username in each post/thread. (Not in picture form, just a single line of text would suffice).
What do you tink? Good idea, bad idea?

I was thinking it would be useful for meet-ups or events or just to get an idea of which members drive which cars without having to always click on the username and look into their garage etc.

Doesn't really sound necessary. Anything you need to know you can find by clicking on the users profile. Its only a couple of clicks away.

I mean, what happens if someone owns, or has listed 10 cars? The list would take up a lot of space then.

It just means that the forums get more cluttered, and I think the great one (PetrolTed) is trying to stay away from that.
I wouldn't want to see it anyway.

IMO, this is redundant information with the posts. The profile is totally sufficient in case someone wants to mention his cars.

You can search by car to using Members' Cars, which might be useful if trying to arrange a single marque meet...

The most common compliment about these forums are that the layout is uncluttered. I think it's best kept that way. I'd rather judge someone on their contribution than some 'amusing' car list under their name

yes This is one of the few forums where I don't feel to old or non-IT savvy, having not having to worry about an avatar, forum rank, car list, signature, random quote and animated GIFs.

Besides which, it keeps bandwidth usage low for mobile users.

I think the simple layout is better because you only read people's posts and not a load of feeble cack under a dribbly, one-sentence reply.

I genuinely think that there is a lot of scope for influence because someone owns or has access to nice cars but I don't think that would form an ideal basis for PHers. I never judge people on what cars they have but rather what flows from their keyboards.

I do like to see what cars people own but not as a basis of whether or not I'd like a protracted discussion with them or not.
