My day out, returning with a new car! Picture heavy!
Discussion
So, early this morning, well, at 6 oclock to be precise, I awakened.
Don't look too awake do I.
Anyway, dragged my parents out of bed (lifts, aid and a whole lot more for the day), packed the Jeep to the brim and set out South!
But where are you going, I hear you say?
Well, I was going to collect this.
The car is fitted (Very professionally!) with a fuel injected Rover 3.5EFI, making about 160BHP and 220lb/ft. This drives a 5 speed gearbox with a Sherpa linkage - and it's fantastic. There's literally 1cm of throw between gears, it IS like a rifle bolt and makes a great noise - Ka-chink!
The swirl pot is in the tank, with EFi pump so that's quiee. Exhaust gases exit via a single pipe system, with fresh air coming in from a K&N filter. The radiator is a one-off item and the engine is as far back as possible. Everything works beautifully and the car is the BEST one that I've ever driven.
It also has Spax shocks, uprated springs and goodridge hoses.
(mum in tow in our support vehicle ;D)
Just bought it, got in, fired it up and ploughed the 120 miles home in 3 hours. Felt like ages but we got there in the end........
The cabin is .......requiring work. It's so noisy - but everything is well placed, the pedals have been moved but the travel is bang on and it's got a nice clutch, light accelerator and the brakes work well. The gearstick falls nicely to hand and it's a real pleasure to drive - it really does ride, grip and go nicely - maybe down to the springs and the 205 tyres it is shod with.
Our solution to the noise problems. With 3.5 litres of Rover V8, a big 5 speeder, no carpet, no deadening, no drain plugs and no gearshift gaiter, it's mighty noisy above 50. It really does sing, so that needs some attention
The looks we got were hillarious - dad had the whole napkins wedged in his ears - we both did really, for the duration of the trip, our ears were ringing! 8-)
Obligatory retro spot
Almost home, watching those gauges - no radiator fan, remember - so eyes were open. Never went above half though! The car has a normal temp gauge, a temp gauge with numbers on it and an oil pressure gauge too, so we had a pretty good idea of what was going on.
And eventually home!
What a day, I'm knackered!
However, I'm really pleased with the car - it needs some trim refitting, some minor fettling and the interior sorting but it's a real sweetie - it feels so solid, reassuring and GOES LIKE STINK.
It's a bit short geared tho, the acceleration is hillarious but it turns about 23mph per 1000rpm in top. Something like 30/1000 would be better
Some videos (apologies for the poorness, ran out of time, energy and daylight today. Some better ones will appear later)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs2Erxnc30U
A quick blast, short shifting at about 3000RPM.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSQobrcjVo8
Starting & revving.
The vids don't quite get the noise across.
Best bit? Only another 90 quid on my insurance policy .
SO yes, will keep you up to date with developments and plans for it. For now, over and out! You can see my previous cars in the 'cars' section of the forum

Hey that's pretty! Always liked the brown ones for some reason....Seen a few RV8 engined ones out there, couple of Stag-engined ones and heard of one with a Ford 5.0...coupe of Cossie ones too, but not seen that one before
Cheers!
His engine's not as far back though, so mine'll go round corners better

Hey there! Thought I'd update you with the progress (changed me user name now!)
I've done loads of little things on the side - refitted chrome trim, wiper blades, refitted various seals, serviced it, new heater control valve, new indicator and main flash stalk - all things to make it more streetable. It also passed it's MOT first time! Woohoo!
Gearing wise it does about 2800RPM at 70mph, so for the meantime it's OK Might follow another route which is narrowed TR8 axle with LSD at some point, has a taller ratio.
Main things that have been done since:
Repainted the floor to suit (now red)
Started work on the brake upgrade (now have brackets, lines, calipers & discs) - Using vented & grooved GTi discs and Sierra sliding calipers, should make it stop well.
Repainted the transmission tunnel, stonechipped underneath.
Fitted a thermostatic fan control relay that controls both electric fans.
Refitted bits of interior trim for detailing (grills, knobs, etc)
Added some random shiny part:
Replaced the knackered steering alloy rack clamp with more suitable polybushes
Started mocking up the new centre console:
Thought about gauge positions:
Had a look at my louvres
But most importantly, just driving and enjoying it.....
Must have done a good 1000 miles in it now, used it for trips to the race track and back and it hasn't let me down yet - abused it too!
I finish my uni term soon, so have 3 months off - this'll be when I take out all the seats, finish some under-carpet work then reinstall it all, with some new front seats I've got, along with a new wheel. There's still plenty of little jobs to do, like refitting the internal boot trim and some wiring tidying but I'm getting there.
I'd like to get some new wheels - Revolution or Compomotives.......Not sure yet.
I'll then be fettling some bodywork issues and upgrading the engine and handling to suit........Nitrous is certainly on the cards (25-50HP to start with) but I'm considering a single turbocharger as well. As ya do.
Changed the exhaust a bit as well (now back to standard, temporarily, whilst I sort the bits for the new one).
Sounds like so:
