Just 5 more days before I pick up my first Tiv, a Tuscan S (2nd hand), I was gutted after this weekend as it was pefect cruising weather, just hope its like that next weekend.

Anyway I had planned already to travel to Plymouth for the bank holiday weekend as the mighty Port Vale are playing Plymouth!!! (who I hear you say!!!) Well methinks why not combine the two and take the Tuscan for my first big trip...so a couple of questions.

1. Does anyoe know of a good quality hotel in Plymouth which has secure parking for my up and coming pride and joy?

2. What should I take with me as contingency for this 600 mile round trip? ( a large wallet for all the optimax???)

3. Any recommendations on a decent TIV friendly pub to stop at for lunch on the journey there from North London? (About half way)

Any hints & tips and advice welcome...

Sadly the forecast for the weekend is not good. Cloudy and light rain. So if this is your first TVR here's a few words of advice - take it easy round roundabouts, out of junctions and be judicious with the loud pedal.

21TVR - I will be getting onto the M25 @ South Mimms onto the M4 going towards Bristol then onto the M5, A38, A374 down towards Plymouth..I think that is the best route??, well according to the AA route planner.

That's probably the easiest route - but definitely the most boring - all those M/way miles in a Tuscan - you must be mad! Suggest you bin the AA route planner and do what I do - USE A MAP! From South Mimms to Plymouth there's some cracking A roads with plenty of nice pub lunch stops - not Bl*ody M/way services!

Salty I would definately go the M3 / A303 / A30 route, the roads are much more fun, it may take a little longer but it will be worth it - the motorway is dead boring in a car like this

Just watch out for the speed cameras on the A303 though!

I've just gone on the AA route planner and specified no motorways and it comes up with A4, A30, A303, few more A roads....back to A30 , then more A roads.

Allegedly it is 30 less miles but only an extar 1/2 hour journey time, so may well take your advice and go this route..

That's definitely the way to go, salty. My parents live 30 mins from Plymouth and the A-road route is a wonderful drive, and I don't find it takes any longer. The roads are pretty empty, and the scenery is lovely, esp. once you get to Cornwall and you start driving the rollercoaster roads! Can't wait to do that journey in my Tuscan!! (only got it last month).

Would suggest a geodesy or similar though, just so you can relax.

I will try and keep my eye out for cameras then, not that I would be speeding of course!!

But if I go faster than 170mph I can beat the cameras according to the Channel 4 5th Gear programme...hmm what's a tuscaneer to do?

Ah well will keep to 30mph and just cruise down the road with a big grin on my face..catching the rays hopefully with the roof off.

I don't suppose you'll have the car by the time the mighty Port Vale play Oldham this Saturday?

Isn't Cornwall still the other side of Plymouth? Or is your Geodesy upside-down? Girls and geography eh??

I must be mad supporting the Vale at all, plus spending all my money on a Tuscan....

Are you an athletic supporter? (Oldham that is, not a very fit supporter )

Unfortunately I'm a *cough* Man Utd *cough* supporter , my girlfriend's brother had free tickets so I thought I'd pop along, good game although Oldham probably should have won

Remember to post some pics when you get them
