So here we are, fellow PH'ers on the eve of the Lombard RAC rally, oops Wales rally GB
I've read my autosport preview, watched eurosport all season and have come to the conclusion that it simply won't do.So here is my manifesto (limited by what i think is possible in the real world), for the RAC and the new world rally championship.
I'd have eight events, they all run to 1980's regs, 5 days, 600 stage miles etc.
round 1
the Monte carlo rally, because its the biggest name in the sport, i reckon they could be £induced£ to join my rebel series, and coz i'd let them have the 'concentration' run.
round 2
rally canada - a proper snow rally
round three
rally america - a whole championship in one rally, twinned with canada to ease freight costs
round four - safari - well it'd be easter by now
round 5 - san remo - its looking for a new home
round 6 - portugal - a return to the sintra stages
round 7 - australia - in perth
round 8 - lombard rac rally, a blind rally following the route of the 1983 event.
i'd also run at the head of the field a 20 car rally master event - think gp masters, but with mikkola, blomqvist, alen, waldegaard and rohrl against, biasion, kankkunen, sainz mcrae , auriol and makkinen, sundry other stars such as ragnotti, mouton, ericsson, etc. in fact anyone who was an a seed during the 80's. They 'd all be driving macraes self built special, to equal it all out.
then i'd have the main event, with todays stars, driving todays cars, but nearer in spec to their rallycross cousins, no restrictors, just 550 bhp, and plenty of wastegte chatter. - at this point your thinking about group b, well i loved group b, but this manifesto's got to be realistic, and the safety fascists won't let me have it...
so there we are, who's in?

How about adding a bit of spice by banning 4wd? Back to all that tail out fun.
Going back to original Lombard RAC format is good idea, (nearly nodded off watching Rally 'GB' this afternoon), bring back those memories of staying up to watch William Woollard and his BBC Rally Report.
