Hopefully I should be getting my first TVR soon, preferably a Tuscan. I have been reading through past posts to see the running costs and a few people have stated comments like a Tuscan costing around £4K a year to run.

What does this £4K include? Is it just purely to keep the car in one roadworthy piece OR is the servicing, insurance, tyres, maintenance, petrol etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, if £4k is the average figure for maintenance alone then I had better find some money sharpish. Thanks, G

Well it all depends on how much you drive it, how lucky you are, how old you are, where you live, colour of your underpants, what football team you support etc. Truth is that an accurate estimate is impossible so I will give you my best guess:

Aproximate (Conservative) budget for a car doing 5-6K per annum:

Insurance £1000
1 annual service £1000
Half a set of tyres per year £350
Petrol with heavy right foot usage £900
Tracker annual subscrption £120
Annual gold warranty £400
Tax £160
Re-finshing n-side wheels after inevitable kerbing £100
AA Recovery membership £120

Plus you are bound to buy a few bits and bobs for car and join the car club, attend a couple of trackdays etc etc. All in I would say about £5k assuming no big problems, but I would recommend a £2k slush fund in case it doesn't and the warranty won't pay out.

I am sure others will disagree with the numbers above but these are my costs based on owning one for 18 months. If that's too much go for a Chimp, costs can be kept much lower, but so's the fun value. Join us, you know you want to......
