We have a 6 year old (owned from new) Boxster and our display cluster was intermittently flickering on and off, and then pretty much went off full time. It was also draining the battery so not much good at all. A well know Porsche dealership have now come back and said £1100 plus VAT for a new one.

Is this a known problem? Is there anything I can do. No Christmas at our house this year!!

That's a good place to know of but we want to retain our Porsche history. I am really trying to find out if this is a common problem and if the price quoted bears any semblance to reality!

Why? Are you planning to concourse the car in th efuture? Or to help improve resale value?

You don't loose Porsche history by fixing things elsewhere.

You can still have it serviced there. Just have the cluster fixed elsewhere. If it worried you that you had a non Porsche invoice, loose the invoice and forget there was ever a fault.

Either way, no reason to pay Porsche for this sort of thing.

"Just have the cluster fixed elsewhere" OK, just a bit nervy about going elsewhere! So anyone recommend a good independant garage in West London?

Do a quick search on this forum and I'm sure you'll find plenty of decent indies in West London. Not knowing the specifics of your problem, but I suspect it might be a simple job to fix.

Don't be nervy not using an OPC, the last 2 times my 996 went there I came away wishing my 6 year old daughter had done the work, she would have done a better job.
