Can we assume that it came from a recently crashed PH contributors car?

I was at a breakers once and they had one on a pallet from a fire damaged car. They wanted £14k for the engine and they'd already sold the gearbox for £6k.

I would have guessed at more than that to be honest. Given the GT3 engine is circa £35k new and the GT2 has additional turbos??

Cost new and cost second hand bear very little relation to each other. You need to be saving a good chunk to warrant the risk and lack of guarantee. £35k is relative, if you`re mid-way through a £150k season and you need to get rolling sharpish in time for the next outing you`ll strike out a cheque. If your £40k 2001 GT3 has just expired you would probably go a slightly different route.

Where do you see TT engines at that price? At that price I'll buy one and keep it as spare!

P.S. GT2 and TT engines are same, exception for the Mk2 GT2 who had slight differences.

I do agree Henry, I was just making the point that £14k sounded a little on the low side if the 'new' price is over £40k with box. At the end of the day its only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it

yes if you can buy a perfectly good LHD tt for 40k, you can buy the engine out of a bounced one for 5. of course its a bit of a roll of the dice
