I've been applying for jobs all over where I live and I can't get anything. The jobs I am applying for aren't rocket science but general shop jobs but I keep getting turned down. I have seven and half GCSE at C level, a AVCE Business studies at C level, and I.C.T Keyskills level 2 so I have a reasonable range of qualifications. I try to come across as friendly and polite by giving a smile when I talk to people, plus I give everyone I meet a copy of my C.V. At best I get invted to an interview but that's it, what am I doing wrong?

There are a number of things to take into account during the recruitment process. I went from completely failing every interview to getting every job I was interviewed for so I understand where you are coming from! For me it was a few things that I was doing wrong which I corrected and this helped me become successful at getting jobs.

Are you displaying a professional attitude at the interview? Are you calm laid back or flustered and not confident?

Are you clean shaven, do you look smart?

Do you wear a suit/shirt/tie to interviews? (Ideally black suit, white shirt, Strong coloured plain tie).

Are the jobs you are attempting to get to high (not enough experience, skills etc) or too low meaning they have to pay you too much.

What is your C.V like? It makes all the difference to getting an interview and also helps at the actual interview. I paid for mine to be professionally written (but this isn't required). It may be worth hosting a copy or emailing so people can give you some feedback on it.

How do you feel about the interviews you have attended? i.e. do you feel that they went well or not?

Ask for feedback from the Employer Obi which should hopefully help you get yourself sorted.
