A friend on nitromater has started a petition. I have no idea whether or not you folks care what NHRA does. A lot of us think it's BS that a team can EARN a points lead, then lose the championship to number eight in points in the so-called interest of ratings. Here's the link if you want to sign.

Have you got any information about the points system changes? I haven't heard about them.

I don't even completely understand all the details, myself. It's supposed to be similar to something NASCAR has. All I know is somehow starting at a particular race toward the end of the year, it starts becoming a runoff between the top 8 cars in points. In other words, if you and your team have all done your jobs and busted your butts all year to create a nice lead for yourself, it is effectively erased and you start all over again with those other seven cars. All you need is for a team to be particularly good or lucky in those last few races and you have a champ who actually averaged worse than someone else all year. NHRA wants to do it just because it will have 8 teams closer together, all guaranteed to have a chance at the championship.

Ratings come before honesty, in other words. The vast majority of people I've seen discussing it think it stinks. Will they listen to their fans? I don't know. I do like the guy who started the petition. We've had political disagreements and he's one of the few people I've done that with in which everything has always stayed respectful and not personal. I've had dinner with his mom and dad when they came down for the Bristol race. Super people.

I didn't know if any of you would even care what NHRA does, or if you'd see it as a reflection on the sport for all of us. If you go to the petition you can view the comments others have left so far and pretty much get the idea of the general feeling about it. I call it affirmative action after our government programs that give people things in an attempt to not discriminate, when they actually discriminate against others in the process. Reverse prejudice IS prejudice.

Keyboards have been worn out in the debate since!!

I don't follow NHRA very closely at present to be honest, I no longer see National Dragster and rarely catch it on TV. I have trouble enough keeping up with the UK on the web. I don't like the sound of this new points system, though thankfully it won't work over here so we won't suffer it.
