Me again.

On the M27, I've just been followed by a Volvo with VASCAR. Over 1.5 miles, my average speed was 107.7mph.

I'm currently on 6 points (all collected within the last 2 months).

Questions
1) What would my likely ban be if I do not contest? The plod who stopped me said that it was likely I would get 2 weeks. Is he correct? I've looked in other postings, and others seem to have got 28 days.

2) The plod was on his own. Is this okay? I thought that they had to be in pairs for witness reasons. I asked him and he said no that was in the "olden days".

3) The plod was really nice and said that if I tell the court that I am self employed, I may only get a fine and 3-5 points. Is this correct?

4) Do all points get wiped after a ban? If this is the case, my preference would be to get a small ban (say 2 weeks) and my 6 points cleared. My rationale being that I would rather get a small ban now, than risk exceeding 12 points and getting an automatic 12 months.

Sorry for all the questions, but again any help would be much appreciated!

in my understanding .

a) the vascar device is all the backup a simgle copper needs

b) if you plead guilty and need the licence for work, and they believe you you will get a big fine and more points, and you can only use that excuse once...

do you really want the next 3 years with maybe 11 points....

in my understanding (not confirmed) if they ban you you loose the points ( still need to declare the ban to insurance) and also the fine would be lower...

still a bit of a lottery though...

i would suggest talking to a brief with experience in traffic cases with the magistrates concerned..

You are right the vascar only needs one cop to use and convict... Which in my opinion isnt good enough as evidence but hey im not the judge....

A mate I knew aquired over 200 (yeah 200+) fo rtooting up failure to produce etc etc and eventually the points cought up with him. He got a 2 year ban and then when he got his licence back it had only 12 points and a ban.. It stays on your licence longer i think if you get banned ...

After a six month ban for 'totting up' your points revert to zero.

After a ban shorter than six months (e.g. 28 days) your points remain the same as before the offence.

In both cases, the banning offence is shown on your licence.

In my opinion, a 28 day ban is preferable to points.
