New boy Pellè bangs in a brace in pre-season friendly. Ok, not top class competition but must be good for his confidence, Shirley?

Can't be bad smile

Sounds like Caulker and Ings may be no goes. Twitchy seems to have got Caulker in his net and Ing has committed his future to Burnley on Twitter, though it was the official Burnley page quoting him, as opposed to his own page. We'll see.

Fraser Forster still sounding likely from what I'm hearing though. Apparently we're baulking at the £12m-£15m Cardiff want for Marshall, with FF only commanding around £8m.

Good riddance to that scumbag Lovren.
One of the new breed of football parasites.
Watch the teams in the CL turn him inside out.

Really feel for you chaps. Hate to see a club like Southampton get raided in the manner they have been. Even as a gooner it makes me wonder where's football going? Are the big clubs getting bigger while the rest stand still?

Hopefully your Academy will continue to churn out world class players which will stay for a bit longer then the latest class.

Chambers off to Arsenal. This is the first move I am actually disappointed about. Thought he was brilliant last year and hoped he had stayed under the radar.

The others I can understand moving, they should stop now in letting people go. Don't understand this one, one more year would have worked for player and club.

Just proves that football is now a business and not a sport. Our team did amazing things last season and it's no surprise when someone with a bigger wallet offers more money that people will leave.

My hope is that we invest wisely and promote through youth.

To be fair, for the 2 years 2012-2014, you had a net spend of £68m.

That places you 4th behind the Manchester's and Lokomotiv London over the same period.

That can't be sustainable unless you have the income of United or petro-dollar owner's who are happy to flush cash away. So this season is a balancing correction.

But surprised about Chambers though - if you still needed to raise some cash, maybe you shouldn't have bought Tadic & Pelle?

I guess though that Koeman can judge a defender, so hopefully the Goons are being burnt @ £16m

How good is chambers? Haven't seen him play, but have heard a lot of talk about him being the most promising out of the bunch. I've seen a few statements from the England u19 set up and all say he's a bit special.

Talk is you chaps might get Gnarby and Jenks on loan. Both will do a great job, Gnarby especially looks like one hell of a player.

Its a real kick in the teeth with Chambers going.
When the club was took over the plan was for the team to be run along the lines of Barcelona. This meant the majority of the 1st team coming out of the academy and a few quality players to add to the squad.
It just now seems that the academy is just a cash cow and the rest of the prem cherry pick our talent and let the club put in all the hard work.
How the club managed to convince Koeman to come here is beyond me. He must have known who was being sold or he is happy to see them go because the replacements coming in are of a better standard.
The club will not go down but things could have been so much better.

As for Chambers I think he will be a top class defender. Will probably end up as a centre back as he is a big lad.

Saints fans need to keep the faith. Still plenty of time to bring in new players. If come the 16th and we are still getting rid then its time to panic !

Dejan Lovren £10,000,000
Victor Wanyama £12,500,000
Pablo Daniel Osvaldo £15,000,000
Jay Rodriguez £6,500,000
Nathaniel Clyne £2,500,000
Paulo Gazzaniga £2,500,000
Emmanuel Mayuka £3,000,000
Gaston Ramirez £12,000,000
Maya Yoshida £2,000,000
Vegard Forren £4,200,000

£70m of recent purchases that are still on your books - a lot of clubs would kill to have that kind of expenditure.

That reality is that you probably spent badly and are having to recoup the money by selling the good players, not the ones that you want rid. Still a good basis of a squad.

Plus recent signings:

Dušan Tadić £10,900,000
Graziano Pellè £9,000,000

Give you a squad assembled for £90m

Forren never played a game for us and cost us nought.
Lovren was £8m
Osvaldo was £12m, 15mil Euros
A little bit of figure massaging young sir !!

Always found their data to be pretty accurate http://www.transferleague.co.uk/football-transfers...

Certainly a few million either way doesn't make much difference when you are talking £80m+

TEKNO does actually make a fair point. We did overachieve last season - I can't prove it with facts, but aside from three signings (one of which was class, one was ok and one was shambolic) we had the same team as the previous campaign. The difference was Poch, and as much as I can't now stand the bloke he's a fking good manager. It pains me that the spuds will likely now do well. But he brought more out in the players than we knew was there. We went from being an "oh yeah, I forgot about those guys" team to "oh st, check these guys out!" Any publicity is good publicity.....except with the BPL!

My take on the ins and outs so far?

Lambert is still the one I'm gutted about, but he's also the one I hold my hands up and say "yes mate, good luck to you." Pelle looks like he could do a job replacing him, too. Brilliant hold up play from him in the pre-season friendlies.

Lallana - more comes out by the week, and none of it makes good reading. He was a bit of a nob back in 2009, and not a lot has changed. Clattenburg is probably due an apology from the club! hehe But we now have Tadic, and he looks fking handy IMO. Also, half the price....think about that.

Shaw - you can't say no to £30m for a player who's started 60 times, at 19 years of age. Yes he'll be world class one day, but that also means he'd definitely leave one day. £30m for what he is now, today? Good business I say.

Lovren - has turned into a bit of a , sadly. Was our best defender last season, but if all the Vlaar talk comes to fruition I think he'll make the grade. Lovren will be a scousepool player by mid-week.

Chambers - you have to ask yourself......we have TWO decent RBs at the moment, and Clyne is the superior of the two. Chambers (though I'm amazed we didn't draught him into centre back) would just be backup to Clybe for a season, and when you could get £12m plus for him and get another backup for around £4m who could probably cut the grade provided Clyne doesn't bust himself up for a couple of months, it could probably be considered good business again.

Spiderman - he's the one we really need to keep, but we also have three defensive mid-fielders. I'll be gutted when he goes, but he's replaceable within the current squad, before you start bringing in new faces.

JRod - this really will be a kick in the nuts if scousepool or Spurs go in for him while he's still injured. He's already been unsettled enough to reject extended contract talks.

Deep down, no it's not good times for the club on the face of it. Two things will happen though:

1) It emerges it's all part of a masterplan, Koeman, Reed and wreck-it-Ralph prove to be genius' and we kick-on from where we were last season.

2) Asset stripping.

It's literally all I can think of at the moment!

Yes you've sold some players but honestly I think you've got some good prices...£30m for Shaw is incredible money....I suppose the last young defender who was as highly regarded was Jones when he went to Man U and I think he was £16mil. Lallana for £25mil ? Yes he's a decent PL player and there's a premium for being English but I am sure Koeman can find a player his equal for half the money in Europe. As a Gooner I am excited about Chambers but we've paid more for him that we paid for BFG a couple of years ago when he had 80 odd caps for Germany.

I think Koeman with his European connections will serve you well....to my mind a club of your stature is well served by having a manager who can effectively widen your scouting net immediately...much more so than having an English manager.

Lord knows who else you've got coming through the youth system too...put every other club in the country to shame.
