I have a convertible and keep getting a fairly strong smell of petrol in the interior. Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so what was the cause. I tend not to let any miss the tank when filling up, so its not the smell of unwanted petrol in the boot. Is this only my car, or convertibles , or any Tuscan in general?

Sorry scurry, my convertible has no petrol smell at all, even after pilling the tank. I would have a poke around, or get it checked at a dealer pronto.

Hope it's something nice and simple.

Possibly the tank breather pipe has come adrift or a leaking fuel filter seal I had this on my previous Tuscan. Best to get it checked out.

I had a smell, usually people say it is a blocked breather under the front right wing. However in my case it was a washer where the fuel pipe met the tank, the washer had degraded and was weaping, was leaving a really strong smell in the boot and a small patch of fuel.

As it is fuel you should get it checked, if you cant smell anything in the boot then its most likely at the front somewhere.

Is the smell constant? if you re-start a hot engine, after a stop at the shops or something you will get a smell of fuel but only for a minute or so.

The smell is strongest in the boot. I wondered if the rubber o-ring around the fuel cap may be worn and allowing vapour to come straight out, up into the boot and work its way into the front. The smell gets stronger after a run. Thanks for comments so far.

I had the same problem turned out to be a small split on the pipe in the boot under the jubilee clip. Dealer thinks it had been over tightened. Changed pipe and no probs since.

Took it in today and it turned out that where the fuel sensor is fitted in the top of the tank there should have been some o-rings fitted around each bolt holding it in place. There were the grand total of 0, zip. This has now been sorted and hopefully the end of the petrol smell. I've heard of a petrol head but this was getting silly.
