Hi, I've been in to see Classic Replicars workshop a couple of times, as they're in the local town, and they seem to be doing okay. The chassis has been considerably beefed up from the original JH Classics original of the 80's, and it'll take just about any Alfa v6, 12v or 24v. I enquired about fitting my Thema 8.32 v8 engine into it, and it will also go. I guess the best thing is they've managed to do a cable operated gearchange, instead of the usual rubbish linkages & bell crank levers you always end up with. Only dilemma I have, is do I build a 246GTS or a Stratos replica with the Thema v8 ? Incidently, you've missed out another Alfa based kit car, the Milano, which was based on the Alfetta GTV. I had one for a while, and unfortunately the chassis was a bit like a farm gate, but as a crusier with style it was surprisingly good. If anyone finds one of those they'll be lucky, single figure build numbers I believe. Best Regards Jerry

Mmm, no competion for me if I had the Thema 832 Engine I would stick in the back of a Monte and go with the 037 replica, what a tool. I think getting it in the Stratos will be tight and need work, but would be my second choice. I would see putting that engine in a Dino replica as bit of a waste, I built one once that despite being quicker than an original and grafting a Monte dash in it to make it look a bit Italian, it always felt a bit of an imposter. At the NEC Classic Car Show last year there was a really nice road going silver 037, very nice.

There was also, circa 1985/6, a 1950s Ferrari Mondial 500 replica based on the GTV Alfa. I think it was called the SD500. A small number were built and looked very authentic. Not sure what happened to the company post 86 though.

What was your impression of the Classic Replicas Dino kit? I've been thinking of building one for a while (when I can free up the garage space) and would be interested in your opinion of both the company and the kit itself. I'm new to kit cars so it'd have to be a reasonably straight-forward build for me to attempt it. I'd also be intending to use it as an only car so it would have to be reliable and reasonably practical.

Alfa engine kit!! I built a Lotus seven type with a 3.0 12v V6.
Goes like a train, Had to do a bit of engineering to mate to a Ford type 9 box and rear diff from a 4x4 sierra. But it all works a treat.

Hi i have a 246gts with an alfa v6 engine, originally it had a 4 cyl lancia lump but the difference now is unbelieveable.I also had the cable shift fitted and can confirm thats its a nice bit of kit which allows very smooth and easy gear changes.Anyone thinking of building one should be aware these are not cheap to build, the previous owner spent over 25k (i have all receipts) only to sell it to me with a knocking engine at a big loss.Anyone interested i will be selling soon to fund a new project.

Chris71 said: That is rather a gorgeous car isn't it. They are rather pretty. It's a development of one of Peter Pellandine's designs, thus very competent in engineering terms. ... unfortunately it's one of the few cars I simply couldn't fit into comfortably enough to drive more than a couple of miles, despite being pretty average height and build, though that might have bee mainly due to the seats fitted in the demonstrator. I wonder what the significance of the 'Voodoo Sportscars' sticker is? Voodoo have been trying to resurrect another very pretty car with Alfa power (the originaly Imp-based Voodoo from the early '70's) and own one of the Alfa based Raffo Tipo 12's...

Sam, check this website, and it seems like they have both projects, the Voodoo and the kudos. http://www.voodoosportscars.com/current_projects.h...They must be developing both....

Can anyone recommend one in or around the London area? I've heard mention Hayward and Scott in Basildon on another forum...? Thanks.

The Merlin muffler blurb in the link says that they can take 'Between 0 and 9 dbs' from the loudness of the engine.... '0' .... money well spent. I'd be interested to find out about the cheaper ones if you vcan find the link too.
