Buying a new 997 - buying advice
Discussion
I'm buying a new 997 delivery 1 March (built in Feb). Dealer has just rung to say it will be ready sooner, early February and I'd be doing a big favour if I could take it off his hands sooner (yeah yeah) so he could meet sales targets etc. Asked what sort of financial deal I would want - any ideas of what the impact on residuals would be for registering an 07 car with a 56 plate rather than waiting a month and registering it as an 07 plate? My heart says wait (and so does my head) but i'd be interested in expert advice for fellow Porsche owners with experience. I'd at least get an extra month's fun out of it getting it sooner.......as my first Porsche this is all very very exciting so you can imagine my general excitment and the unbearable anticipation of driving the car.
Not sure on the price impact for a change in the reg but there must be some and I can't believe you get that amount off in a deal with the sales guy. I might be wrong (not an expert!).
Can't you have a look at prices on autotrader and try and work out what the "roll down" is. That or call somee other OPCs and ask where their bid is on two identical cars diff reg etc etc.
I'd wait the month unless you can really screw a truely desperate salesman. (Is is about to get fired??)
Be ruthless IMHO. He's not your mate.

Bm dealer just put me in exactly the same situation on my 335i which has miraculously turned up this week as opposed to the 1st of March and would I take it....as I already got maximum discount (4k) there was no further incentive so they played the its here, you got a deal, we need you to pay for it, besides theres no real difference in reg numbers these days - why wait. I disagree and will now be collecting in March.
If you are going to keep it forever then it makes no difference, if you arent you will get hit come resale. Particularly as a 56 will always appear as a 2006 car whilst a 07 reg will be 'new' until 2008.
Ask the dealer to make a suggestion of what incentive he would provide for you to take the car now as opposed to waiting for the new reg. That will test how keen he is
