Finally looking to buy a Tuscan after thinking about it for ages. I will be looking at cars around the £25-27k mark, preferably with 15k+ miles and having had an engine rebuild.
Are there any technical differences between the early and late 2000 cars, or should I just buy on condition?

There were quite a few changes, even early on in the Tuscan's life. Personally, the main point I would look for is drilled brakes all round. At the time these were introduced, so were several less obvious improvements - like the Mk II roof. X reg onwards I think.

I am picking up my first Tuscasn, an X-reg, on saturday, it also has drilled discs i am happy to say.

What are the differences of the Mk2 roof?

MK 1 roof - the side panels were separate parts. If you looked down on the roof - you could see gaps between the side parts and self tapping screws inside. MK II roof is all moulded in one piece but still has the 'gutter lines' - but moulded in. No doubt the fit improved too. MK III roof has different rubber seals around it - from April 2000 / Y reg I believe IIRC.

Will a Mk 3 roof fit an older car? (Oct 2000 specifically)

A MK III will fit a MK II - but a new roof panel is around £550! It would probably need adjusting to ensure a perfect fir prior to painting. Not really worth the trouble to be honest. I expect a MK III could be made to fit a MK 1 too. There no reason why rooves should not be interchangeable from the point of view that the distance from the top of the screen frame to the rear header rail should be the same (within TVRs own manufacturing tolerances!). However, like other body panels - a roof wil be made to fit a particular body. Also, the rubber seals on different rooves may be of slightly differing dimensions - so get better/worse - noiser/quiter fit.

no point attempting to upgrade your roof, even the new cars leak. My MK1 roof was upgraded by the factory to a MKII or is it III ? when it was still under warranty getting it's engine re-built as my dealer could not stop it leaking from the A-Posts. Now is only lets water in when I wash it. So not often then !!

I'm also picking up my first Tuscan today - in approx. 1 hour. The tension is mounting!!
