Hi Chaps,
I'm fed up of driving around in he merc, which although is a nice car, is dull as hell!
I've been looking at a maybe getting a 968 to replace it with, but i've had no experience with them at all.
I think the a sport would most suit my needs, but what sort of mpg do they do, what should i look for apart from the obvious? Does anything break regulary?
Cheers,
Charlie.

I get 26-27 mpg out of mine on a full tank of fuel with mixed driving and have never been accused of being shy with the accelerator pedal.
Best place to ask the question about things to look out for is on the 968 forum.

I know of a nice black Sport with rare factory aircon that might be for sale soon. PM if interested. Very few 968 sports had aircon, and its great to have - the std ventilation system is pants.

No. you live up north. the 968 is far too effeminate-looking and you will suffer accordingly
(I did have a serious answer but it was waaaay too sensible. and long winded. and dull. and subjective. IMHO of course)

I had a 968 club sport in speed yellow. Lovely car, beautiful balance and enough power for the road. The only car ever regretted selling

Nice blue one in the Coys auction at Autosport Show this w/e.......
& that car is not only v clean but also has the honour of being moved there today by a certain excellent reputationed repilian named transport co too
Vixpy, lots on here ref 968s, but in the main- cams- 968s eat them- must be checked, dif bearings, torque tube bearings, calipers lift & bind.
Hi Vixpy
I note you are a TVR man - you may find the 968 far too willing to go round corners, and rather too slow. Have you tried one?
Lovely cars, the 944 is better value but worth less when you sell etc etc. Avoid tiptronics.
I would suggest 8-9K for a clean coupe, the Sport (some 17" and CS (all 17" have a considerably worse ride - may be an issue if you're used to a big ole Merc.
The CS usually has buckets that are great for up to 1.5hours in one sitting, less than comfy after that.....

All Sports came with 17" wheels - they are exactly the same as CS's but with a few extras and a different badge.
Yeah, they eat cams. Every 8-10 years or 80k+ miles or so in general. Can't get enough of them. Pinion bearings - few cars have ever developed a problem with these - maybe around 5% and I would daresay mostly early cars. Plate lift isn't a big deal - don't let it put you off an otherwise good car.
27 mpg is about what I got too in mixed driving. Buy a good one, look after it and nothing major should go wrong. I miss mine a lot, but was glad I sold when I did. Values have, shall we say, re-adjusted in the last 12 months. Good ones can't be far from bottoming out, can they? I'd be looking to buy back in soon, if I was in the UK. Can't find a good one anywhere near me in the states though!

my brother's old 968 is for sale (he sold it about 2 years ago?)( i think its his and it was a hartech maintained car)

It was a really good example (plus he drives like a pussy, so he certainly never gave it a hard life).
