Was just doing a trawl through the classifieds, and couldn't help noticing that the word "reduced" appears with alarming regularity throughout the 996 section.

Surely 996s are fast reaching the stage where they must be the bargain of the century?

If you study the usual places, be it dealers or private sales it looks to me that all but the very best cars seem to hang around a long time.
I dont think it matters what they are..of course more 996 in the market place due to upgrading to 997 in a lot of cases maybe?
Maybe people are keeping hold of all the good older models, and if they are selling them asking to much money.
I fancy an older 911 at some point and without naming names I was Interested in a GREEN 964 RS, 33 K MILES. BUT NOT AT 46K, and certainly not at 50k because its moved to Yorkshire!.

Also, its a sluggish time of the year - just after Christmas and before the January pay packet has arrived.

Your right there are a great amount of 996 up for sale at the moment and until a week ago I was in the market to buy one of these.
I change my car fairly often and I always consider how hard it will be to sell on. On this occasion I had selected a porsche that are a lot less common than the normal and that car was the 996 C4S (turbo Body One) fantastic looks and should be easy to shift. My first day with it yesterday and Im never going to sell it.
But I had considered buying a yellow one in this dealer but its been up for sell some time.

yes

I would love to buy a newish 996 Turbo, but....

1. The trade in bids I get on my car are HILARIOUS (£10k below retail at the same dealer!!) - dealers are just not willing to deal in any kind of sensible way. They want a big margin on the car they are selling, and a massive margin on mine (Jesus I sound like KayC...)
2. My car is a 2000 car and so will not be caught by Red Ken's insanity £25 ConC - pre 2001 cars won't get affected to protect pikeys with big Scorpios etc which means that my 2000 car will save me a fortune
3. The more I use it the better it's getting to be honest
4. Now it has some stone chips and a slightly marked alloy I am just getting on with DRIVING THE HELL OUT OF it rather than fretting about it getting wet.
5. I know it's been properly looked after, and serviced early every time
6. I actually love it more as it gets older, it holds great memories for me, it feels comfortable like a well loved and enjoyed £5000 Savile Row suit or a particularly fine worn pair of £1000 hand made shoes. Quality remains long after the price is forgotten

SO, I haven't succumbed to the usual temptation to change after two years for vanity's sake.

It would burn well over £10k if I changed (new car would be £50k instantly worth £40k trade!!) so I will just enjoy what I have and maybe treat it to a Zymol detail, a nose respray, a PSE and some monoblock GT3 wheels, and still be SEVEN GRAND better off!!!

yeah, i'm currently mulling over what to do about my 996..

I actually got one cheaper and higher miles than I was looking for because it was a well looked after car, and had always planned to hang onto it for a year then upgrade to a facelift..

but to be honest, i just dont know anymore, as much as i love it, its a deprecating libaility with significant added costs... but then, what cars arent?

I can sympathise and fully understand as I was quite shocked, horrified even, when given a trade in price for my 996TT ... certainly 10k less than others advertised, despite it being very well looked after, having all options and a full service history etc.

Before this car I was in the habit of changing cars every 6-8 months ... just get that itch for something new (probably as I use the car everyday).
However I have loved every minute of driving the 996TT for over 2 years now (covering over 35k miles) and still when I wash it and jump in it I get that 'there's no-where I'd sooner be' feeling .... other jumping out of a Zonda, being met by Carmen Electra in a bikini on Miami Beach, handing me a cold beer !!

I have put the car up on here, but am seriously considering keeping it as I think that in a few years with a few more miles on, it's still going to be a fantastic car.

My big problem and the reason I was looking to change is a new daughter who does not really fit well in the back (and then there's no room for the 'travel system').

It's anyones guess, but I would be interested to know what do you guys think about a 996TT with 90,000 miles in 2 years time. It'll still be extremely quick and look good, but would it sell and for what sort of price?

Would also be interested to know anyone who has a newborn and how they get around the lack of space. (The Mrs has a 206 which isn't what I would like to use at the weekend).

If I could find a warrnatied 90k mile turbo I'd buy it in an instant.

As you love the 996 why not sell the 206 and buy and old Merc estate- you will not lose much by way of cash and will get to keep the 996 and have a reliable, indestructable baby wagon- job done!!

ha ha ..... that sounds like a plan Mr Fox !!!
hence the original questions .... what are the thoughts on a 2001, 996TT with circa 90-100k miles on the clock in 18 months time.
What would it be worth I were to keep it for a while (best est)?
