Painting Alloys Black

Yup sure...however, I'm actually in the middle of painting the wheel bolts black at the moment, prob best to take pics then, look a bit mung otherwise - certainly won't show them to their best effect (its only taken a year to get the time to get around to doing it!!)
I've had my 19" ACS Split Rims overhauled by a local specialist, only unfortunately up here in the wet & windy North. After visiting various wheel refurbishers and looking at the quality of finish, I would highly recommend you look at Black Powdercoat which I settled on, obviously much thicker than paint and also a lot more durable against stone chips & scratches etc.
AFAIK you are limited to a glossy(ish) Black finish, but after almost 14 months and a few thousand miles they still look as good as the day they came back to me.

didnt like lepson's attitude on the phone.
I used www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/index.htm
they did a superb job for my mk1 wheels. £250 all in.

Pics for you of the "dark" black chrome finish from Lepsons...bolts still not done, another topic altogether, driving me nuts trying to keep the paint on and about to give up and buy caps methinks.

I think I know who you're referring to...she was a tad "frosty" on a couple of occasions when I phoned in, but when speaking to the right-hand-man Chris (iirc), he was very helpful (and tolerant of me being undecisive!). The Guvnor (Tony, iirc) also has a silver 996 with dark black chrome GT3 rims, hence me being persuaded.
I try to avoid getting too envolved in powder coating older alloy wheels as the aluminium retains too much moisture, much like a sponge. Obviously your wheels are not that old. If you would like your wheels powder coated send me a 'pm' and I'll sort it out. I am based in Barking so not to far away. I had Lepsons refurb the wheels on the other halves Alpina as there were some scuffs that needed attending to and they made a nice job of it. The down side was that they obviously coat the wheels whilst they are still hot which leads to a couple of problems. I had to file the wheel centres to get the wheels to fit back over the stub axles to get them back on the bloody car. They had been hung from the wheel holes and needed dressing out to remove the hook marks, 2000 miles later the wheel bolts would still re-torque as the powder coating is still reducing in film thickness and therefore allowing the wheels to effectively come loose. (not happy with this at all). Two years ago they refurbed the wheels on the Brabus and they again did a very nice job and without experiencing any of the above issues.
I guess they have become victims of their own success. They set their stall out to refurb wheels and they have proved to be very successful. That said we are known for architectural grade powder coating but will still service the chap that wants a door handle recoated. We are a service industry and as such I believe we should always offer a service.

There was a thread a week or so ago showing a black GT3 Mk-2 with black spokes and polished rims (looks like split rims, but of course they're one-piece)
Thread here --> www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=342427&f=48&h=0
but looks like pic has been removed, unfortunately....sorry, I'm not being that much help, am I?
Looked the nuts, imho.
