Porsche ergonomics
Discussion
So everyone agrees that the driving position in a pre-1997 911 is far more comfortable in a left hooker than in a right hand drive car, especially for the taller driver.
But are there any steps that can be taken to improve the driving position for those who just don't want to move to LHD?
For example...
could the pedals be adjusted so they're straight in front of you?
or could the seat/runner actually be adjusted so that it lines up directly with the offset pedals?
or could a space, or even a rest, be created to the left of the clutch?
can the seat runner be altered so that the drivers seat will go further back (i've heard that the comfort seats go further back than the hard back sports seats that I have)?
or is there a way of raising the height of the steering wheel above the knees (i've been told that the answer to this question is yes).
i'm sure that i'm not the only one who struggles a bit with the ergonomics of the 911 RHD cabin and i'd be interested to hear what others have done - or tried to do - to improve their driving position.

Never had a problem.
Agree that earlier cars are better with lhd, and 915 g/b works better from the l/h seat, but never had a problem with rhd cars, despite slight offset.
Several track/advanced instructors have said that many people have the seat too far back on 911s and it pays to sit closer to the steering wheel for optimum control.

When I first got my 993 the seat wouldn't go back far enough, so I removed the two rear stops which added about 1" of adjustment. Then re-drilled the runners and got another 1/2".
Then changed the s-wheel for a 340 Raid c/w airbag - this now suited my 6'2" frame - then I got bored and sold it!!!

Anyone compared the standard, comfort seats with the hard back seats? Do they actually offer more "comfort"? I'm told that they will go back further allowing slightly more legroom.
And what about pedals. My 993 has the aluminium pack pedals. Anyone know if they're larger (or smaller) than the standard pedals which I assume were rubber? Perhaps the standard pedals would allow more room to the left of the clutch.
Please stop me if this is getting too anal!

I have noticed that I tend to adjust the seat for short-term comfort but with the result that it gets uncomfortable on a long journey. I'm vertically challenged, but like to have the seat so that my heel rests on the bottom hinge of the loud pedal. I can't seem to find a seat position that doesn't give me either a cramp in my calfs or a twinge in my thigh.
Yes - it's all true.....
