Excess in the city
Discussion
Usual media hype..... only the top 1% earn the big, big bucks.....I have known previous participants in past magazine articles and Tv progs.......they have had a laugh at the BS they have got away with.
Out before xmas with a couple of mates on the day they received 7 figure bonuses....dodgy pub for Timmy taylor landlord and rather than a ruby,,,went up market to a moderate french restaurant £45 a head....trouble is that probably wouldn't have been too entertaining on a tv program

I take it the guy who is suing his employer for £7m in bonuses because he only got £1m still works there

To be honest this program is shameless. That chap must be a proper t**t. he is obviously only doing it as the figure in question does not match that of his peers and therefore he is making a stand point.
Most people in their working life will only earn 1 million!

Perhaps I'm missing the point, but surely he's doing it precisely because others he works with are being paid more. How many of us would gladly do the same (mundane, high pressure, long hours) job as others for far, far less money, whilst those very same people continue to get more?
So what if some people will 'only' earn a million in their lives, I don't see how it is relevant.
believe me, the amount of people who actually earn that money in the city is very very small compared to the amount of people who work there. The way this programme portrays the city is that we are all having money thrown at us, which is simply not true.
E.g I work in Corporate Actions which basically means that I do all the donkey work for these rights issues, takeovers, mergers etc. Somebody has to do it and it is usually me. i could lose my bank millions (and my job) just by having a decimal place in the wrong position.
So it's not all like the t.v you know

I thought I'd missed it, as I have just got in from the office, but, fortunately, the wife is recording it for me.
I must admit, I hope that we pay competitively with Goldman, but you never can tell.
Edited to say, do they say exactly what these guys do, and what they get paid?
And have they picked the most annoying, braying, hooray henries that they could round up, instead of the people from the world outside essex who make up 99% of the city population?

If he's being paid for results & achieving less than them then it's perfectly fair. If there are other reasons then it's less so.

It was a bit crap to be honest. What I expected - picked the very worst of us to have the nation moaning at their TVs about the "rich city wan*ers".
As for "we" - mind saying which bank you work for? Not sure if any are on a par with GS although hard to say - its all so hush hush.

Can anyone actually explain what's wrong with huge bonuses anyway? Surely if you've earned your bank X amount, it's perfectly rational for your bank to be paying you anything up to X?
Ah, but if you lose (or make less than expected), would it be fair for the employer to ask for money back?

Because that's logical/rational and the world works on human nature.
TV programs largely exist to confirm the stereotypes that are the social norms of the day.
