I'm a 30yr old male with 2 yrs no claims, and am thinking about a boxster - 2-4 yrs old(can't afford a 911!!!!).

But I'm a bit worried about servicing and insurance.... any tips or advice on how much I should budget?

Thanks

Dan

you could either go for a later boxster or an older 911 996 3.4cc.If you look around the car sale mags or online your see a lot of pre facelift 996s some are over priced and will be hard to shift as there are so many. Its a buyers market £25000 should do it. good luck.

Insurance - phone a few companies - it`s a very personal thing an prices vary wildly but in the main a Boxster isn`t terrible to insure.

Service - wise allow £1,500 - £2,000 a year and you should be fine. Anything less than £1,500 might be a bit optimistic - tyres £150 a corner, brakes £500 an axle & so on.

Re: the ages you mention the main changes are late 2002 facelift model with glass rear screen, 2004 new "987" model. Make sure you don`t give "987" money for the last of the older "986" model cars and if you`re buying around 2002 make sure you couldn`t get a facelift car for the money.

if you are looking for a 2002/3(ish) boxster make sure you try to get the facelift car.

engine power was slightly increased, but the most significant change was fittment of a glass real screen. sounds daft but it was a real boon. the older plastic ones were crap!
