Ok for various reasons we need to get our drive re-Tarmac'd - does anybody have any recommendations as who to use (or avoid)? local for nationwide company fine, just want the job doing properly...

Don't know if they're any good but Spadeoak used to do a lot of work on peoples drives etc..

I would recommend Spadeoak, I have another firm who are good but will post the company name tomorrow as it is at work.

great thanks - do you know if they do residential work though as their web site gives me the impression of corporate only? (ours will be an insurance job to replace our home drive)

I've seen them working on private houses so would assume that unless it's some form of council contract they do private jobs.

In the end we went with ESC www.esc-surfacing.co.uk/ and have been very impressed with what they did for us (dug out old drive to 18 inches deep, remove all waste, re-stabalise ground, extend width by 1.5mtrs, brick border, rebuild tarmac layers and finish).

We would certainly recommend them and our neighbours were impressed with how they worked and the results...
