Car was parked up for just over a week recently. Hopped in (unlocked in my garage) and drove into local town where I discovered key blip wouldn't lock car. Quick call to OPC who said that the car had probably detected a drop in battery condition and started to shut down systems starting with remote sensor. Suggested resetting by locking then unlocking car with button on dash. This did the trick. Got a trickle charger now!

Think it's pretty normal for lightweight batteries to start to weaken if not used for a week or so? - hence trickle chargers?

Not the case after a week or so the car alarm mech goes into sleepmode to prevent excess use of the batery. Just put key in the lock and manual unlock it ,this reactivates the system and off you go.....

What he said. If it is the same as the 996 then it is simply the alarm stopping 'listening' for the remote after about four days to extend battery life (and prevent it going flat).

Open the door using the (mechanical) key and all will be OK again once the car is started.
