Was driving down a lovely backroad in Somerset on Saturday at hooning speed +1 when a pheasant ran out in front of us. I only had time to see the whites of his eyes before impact. Looking behind me it was a mess of feathers and bits...

Stopped immediately and checked the car - not a single mark. The underside of the Mazda 5 has a plate underneath which protects everything (I didn't know it was there, but you can't even see the axles easily). Not a mark of a feather to be seen thumbup

Can't believe it's taken more then 15 years of driving to notch up my first kill (other than invertebrates!).

Drove back past it today - no sign of the poor bugger.

I had my first (and so far only) roadkill only a few months after getting my car, on a PH run (lagging miles behind everyone else). The feel of your wheels going over a squirrel's head and seeing it tumbling over and over in your mirror isn't very nice.

A fox once ran out on me. I was doing 50mph and caught the fox's head (I could tell due to the indentation on the front lower panel) and we watched it run off into the trees! Probably didnt last long, horrible. A deer ran into my friends old Audi 80 and wrote it off, what a mess.

On the way to school once someone had obviously hit a deer, and threw it into a skip just outside of school. Pretty sick.

You should have stopped picked it up and had a nice hearty rustic Sunday lunch.

I hit a pheasant just after Christmas. The stupid thing waited until I could only see it's head above the front of the Elise and ran out in front of me. I couldn't avoid it.

The stupid thing left half it's beak on my front clam and has cracked the paint. I wished I stopped, picked it up and cooked the blummin' thing.

Unfortunately, pheasants are a regular hazard where I live. I can see why people pay to shoot them!

We had something very similar come into the bodyshop but it involved a crash helmet, nasty!

Apparently pheasants aren't a wild bird... they are all bred and released in to the wild just to be shot! Might explain why they are so damn stupid!

Living ooooop nawf its a hazard of driving around here, I always try my best to avoid them safely but if I realise I am going to hit whatever I make sure I hit them wheels on to minimise damage.

The last pheasant I hit was at in excess of 1 lepton, I moved to the right, so did he, I moved back left, so did he, back to the right, he headed back to the right as did he and I collected him with the offside wheels.

Looking back it was like someone had burst a duvet.

My female passenger asked if it suffered.

Er, no love, shouldn't have thought so.

Living in the 'sticks' somewhat, there's Carrion on every road, Deer, Badgers, Foxes, Rabbit, and a Pheasant farm in my parent's village. Fortunately in 15 years I haven't had the pleasure of adding to it yet.

Have run over a Pigeon in Bow though!!

(Sorry Pigeon).

My Brother hit one with the Landrover once at about 50 mph (when I was a passenger) the stupid thing tried to fly underneath but managed to collide with the rear axle, cue one large plume of feathers exiting the rear of the landrover, made a really loud thud in the process.

A mate once hit a squirrel when we were around 18. Both cars stop, 4 strapping teenage lads looking at the clearly suffering but definitely not dead squirrel trying to persuade the others to put it out of its misery with a tyre iron.

Up steps mate's girlfriend... Crunch of boot heel on squirrel skull... Shall we go now?

Nearly 20 years later, I still live in fear of meeting her again!
