Hi guys, the official line is that the Gt3 needs running in for 1,000 miles, apparently the engine is bench tested but not bench run in, contrary to what I have read by a poster on another site!

Just wondered whether (ahead of mine arriving)if all you 997GT3-ers have followed the guidelines fully or has the temptation proved too much ????

Its straight forward with them all.
Dont leave it ticking over, start and drive.
Dont do short 2 miles here and their.
Keep the engine below 4k revs until at operating temp.
The odd trip up the rev range wont hurt but I wouldnt take it above 85% of full power until you build some miles on..
Dont labour the engine in high gears, use the box up and down. Oh and dont sit on the motorway for mile after mile at a steady speed, you are running in all components not just the motor, so use the gears/brakes suspension stearing etc etc.
A nice mix of A and B roads I would say, thats how I did my 997 2s and to be honest I dont think its that different.
Most of all enjoy your car!!
ps its best to use all of the above to avoid a mishap!!!

Grant - when is yours arriving? Mine is too far off - March build lol.
February is gonna be one hell of a slow month!

I think the running in procedure is just common sense. If you've got to the stage where your new car is a GT3 then you should know how to run a car in IMO.

There is no "running-in" procedure in the sense that there is no temporary rev limit. In fact, it's better for the engine if you use the full rev range from the beginning.

However, you should avoid running at high revs continuously. That can cause damage.

Best to use a lot of throttle modulation for the first 500-1000 miles.

(The above was passed to me from the guy at P. in charge of developing the GT3 engine.)

997GT3....It's here already, just not taking it until March, due to Scottish blood!

I know the running in procedure, just interested if any new owners have stuck to it in the face of 415BHP & the sport button sound provocation!

There's no limit on revving the engine, just common sense.

One advantage of going for factory collection is that by the time the car is back home its just about run in.

Well, if pressed I might admitt that, on the way back from the factory, I MAY have given her full beans through the gears leaving a French toll booth after having my paperwork checked by French plods for half an hour. Mind you they seemed to enjoy it with lots of smiling and waving to be seen in the rear view mirror - at least I think that's what it was! Oh and Grant - welcome back and enjoy!

I thought that irrespective of the time or the place, this was compulsory, are you suggesting it's not ?

Phil

When the OPC phoned to say it was in blighty, I must confess to mixed feelings the AMV8 whispers "please keep, please keep me, oh go on you know it makes sense" & I really want to. So my voice had a hint of disapointment when he phoned rather than overt excitement! Now I have to sit the Aston down & tell him why he must gocry
So putting it off for a few weeks whilst also knowing it adds value to my new steed on an 07 instead of a 56, isn't a prob. really....plus the fact I am having my filling cemented in just in case the PASM isn't as good as expected!

Don't worry - at the time I was still in AMV8 - ie 'gentleman' - mode but I'm much better now!!

Give it the berries from day one. Always have always will. Never suffered any problems with any of my bikes or cars. Most important bit is to warm them up properly.

Full Beans from the off - Always the same for me. The only Caveat to this is to always warm the car thoroughly through first - oil up to temp etc etc... don't stick to constant speeds but keep it varied... and if you do nail it just remember to have periods of mechanical sympathy as well.

SO NO BOUNCING OFF THE LIMITER at every opportunity - and try to avoid small stop start work.

What a CAR....!!!!!

I have done 5500 miles in mine now and she is just starting to free up a bit !

Feels like the amount of low rev torque is increasing.

Driven enthusiastically she averages around 21 to the gallon but did 450 miles of sensible driving yesterday (using fith and sixth gears occaisionally !) due to traffic and scameras and returned over 26 to the gallon!
