Could anybody help me out identifiying what year and revision the porsche I am considering buying is - the vin plate is WP0ZZZ99215601754 - i have googled it but cant quite get my head round it - its meant to be a 2000 car but there is no Y in the VIN?

10th character is a 1 = model year 2001, so a Y plate would match that.

X was 1.9.00 to 28.02.01 so I *think* that would also make sense.

disclaimer: I have no knowledge beyond google.

do you know of any links that would state which revision of the engine that car would have?

Both the ones you are looking at should be 3.4l engines and pre-facelift models. (I am assuming by looking at the price they are Carreras)

3.6l engine from end of 2001 onwards in the facelift Carrera.

The description kindly supplied by porsales didn't match the car, they gave you the wrong VIN, or it's just not the car for you ?

The Vin number that Porsales was good enough to find for me doesnt match the car - different blue, I am assuming the VIN Number I have been given by the inspector is incorrectly copied.

The year designation is CORRECT.

Model years run from 1st August the previous year through to 31st July in that year.

So a 'model year' 2001 is anywhere between 1st August 2000 and 31st July 2001. An X-plate ran from 1st September 2000 to 28th Feb 2001. Hence all X-plates (and early Y's) will be model year 2001's.

It will be a pre-facelift, 3.4 based car - the main difference over a 2000 year car is that you will have electrical switches down by the driver's door sill to operate the boot and bonnet lids, rather than the silver mechanical levers (and you'll have a remote button on the key fob).

[see - i found out a lot after searching for one for 18 months !!].
