10th character is a 1 = model year 2001, so a Y plate would match that.
The year designation is CORRECT.
Model years run from 1st August the previous year through to 31st July in that year.
So a 'model year' 2001 is anywhere between 1st August 2000 and 31st July 2001. An X-plate ran from 1st September 2000 to 28th Feb 2001. Hence all X-plates (and early Y's) will be model year 2001's.
It will be a pre-facelift, 3.4 based car - the main difference over a 2000 year car is that you will have electrical switches down by the driver's door sill to operate the boot and bonnet lids, rather than the silver mechanical levers (and you'll have a remote button on the key fob).
