After waiting an extra week, due to non-car problems, i eventually picked up my Tuscan on Saturday.

Drove 200 miles to the dealership in the Chim, and drove 200 miles back home in the Tuscan.

Its an x-reg 4.0 in titanium with portland grey interior and i now find myself faced with a major problem.

I now have to take up ventriloquism, because i can no longer move my lips out of the dumb-looking self satisfied grin that has appeared and made it home on my face.

Everything about the car has me in awe. The obvious looks, the reaction from other drivers and pedestrians.

As for performance, those revs rise even before i've moved my bleedin foot, the throttle response is soooooo spot on.....and scary

Its gonna take me a few miles to get used to the differences with the chim. Particularly the crafty way the car puts on speed without me noticing. The handling and suspension is so on the ball i find myself taking A and B road corners unintentionally at 70, when i would have done 50 in the chim. Must watch this

Ahhhh on holiday from thursday and next week to boot.

X-reg? Handling on the ball?!

Swilly, please let me know if you have the original factory suspenion or some later upgrade. I have a 2000 year car and the handling is a nightmare.

Girlracer,

The suspension is original factory but the front uprights subject to the factory recall and replacement.

I have experienced no tramlining or instability on roads that i have previously experienced it in the chim. It is particularly stable on the first lane of the motorway where there is visible rutting that has casued tramlining in the past.

Hmmm,

I have the same problem with my 2000 Tuscan. The inside lane of the motorway is a nightmare as I tramline in and out of the ruts. While generally it sticks like glue and I feel comfortable taking sweeping corners at speed, on straights I'm constantly correcting the steering as it decides it wants to hop into every rut & hollow it can find.

I'm currently experimenting with slight tyre pressure changes to see if that balances it out, but at the moment after a couple of hours on the road my shoulders feel like I've been to the gym instead.

It's going back to the dealer for a couple of minor tweaks in a couple of weeks so I'll see if they can do anything with the suspension then, but I was blaming it on the huge 18" wheels so far.

for the record - i have an x from new too, took me this long to have nitron shocks and springs fitted after original shocks needed replacing - handling is transformed: i would highly recommend it.

superfly,

Your Nitrons - do they give a more supple ride over the bumpy stuff. They aren't harder than the factory setup are they? I am aware that there are different Nitron spring/damper combos available.

I have a 2000 Red Rose from new, no problems with the handling or tramlining at all - even at speeds in excess of 165 (in Beligium)

As has been said before, get the suspension alignment checked, this is the most common cause of handling issues on Tuscans, if you can, go to Micheldever Tyres, in Micheldever Hants, as they have a good reputation (best to go mid week when they are not too busy though) or some other DECENT tyre place (i.e. NOT Kwik Fit)

Tuscans CAN be made to handle well, and you know you deserve it!

I'd thought it was just the price of Tuscan owning..
Right, if there is a way to fix it I'll hassle my dealers until they find the problem then

Cheers,

Martin

Just spoke to Racing Green... popping in to chat with them on Saturday and see what they recommend, then get it booked in for next week. Everyone who's upgraded to Nitrons has used the same 3 words - "transformed", "the" and "car". Sounds good to me

Uuum, you must all come to the Ball at Keevil - much discussion to be had whilst standing round and kickin' tyres!!!

What is the overriding benefit from paying out a couple more thousand for Nitro shocks? I have a Tusc S so has improved suspension...would Nitro shocks improve the handling of the 'S'??
