hmm...K&N 72 cone filter replacement for the standard S2 airbox. Took all of 20 minutes to fit (and je suis mechanical retard)....there are less parts and weight to the new bit, it makes a fantastic noise with the throttle open, and cost a heady 63 quid! And according to that independant site which I cant remember the URL for, it was the best of the ones they tried.

Im trying to find the catch?!

Interested..... About to drop a whole load of cash into an ITG kit. I know that this has been done to death on this board but it never seems real until you are about to hand the dosh over. Anyone out there got anything to add?

K+N is a great value bang for buck upgrade. Probably the best value there is in fact.

You'll get people shouting about how it's a bad thing to do because it sucks warm air in from the engine bay. You can lessen this affect by ducting cold air straight from the side pod onto the cone - this is what I have done.
The other filter systems can also suffer from heat soak to some degree anyway so what the hell - why not spend just £50 on a K+N upgrade and save the rest of your money for upgrades with less contraversial power increases (if power is in fact what you want).

The noise you get from a K+N filter is superb and justifies the cost alone. I'm not fussed about how many more BHP I [don't] get from it - my car is still powerful enough for my rather amateurish driving efforts thanks.

People also try to build complete systems around K&Ns using flowerpots and piping to the air intake.

Otherwise you will get hot air from the engine bay which may actually lead to a loss in power, not an increase

Which is why most people go for a hurricane - its cheaper than the ITG, but has all the trunking etc. already sorted for you.

Judging by the above it no longer seems to be a shrewd move to proceed with handing over 935 squid to HR Owen for my ITC induction kit and sports exhaust upgrade if the same benefits can be achieved at a lower cost!

Anyone have any experience of or idea what
A phone number and contact name will suffice if no one has a price guide by their desk

The upgrade is a foregone conclusion, however I would rather not hand over hard earned cash if I dont have to!

Im thinking about the mechanics of a car going forward rapidly...and the likelihood of hot air actually coming in through the cone rather than the cold (denser) piped air from outside...I know which seems more likely....

Anyway...It's certainly freed the engine up a little...as Bonce says, who gives a toss whether you get an extra 3 or 4bhp when it soudns like THAT!

I reckon just adding another few tubes from the side air-intake would guarantee no warm air getting in....

p.s. abz....could now get a Tubistyle exhaust system, and STILL have paid the same as you'll pay HR OWen.

I think almost all the official upgrades are a con. You can get 160 bhp, from the standard engine, for around a grand.... QED engineering are someeno who do this IIRC

www.lotusrepairs.co.uk (or maybe .com) which is Sinclaires can fit a hurricane for you and a sports exhaust for about half what HR Owen want.

Hurricane was my option, will argue it did give more power, espically at the top end of the rev range.

If i don't get an S2 with my claim, I have a Hurricane to flog at a very good price.
