Just wondered what the general consensus amongst regular trackday drivers is regarding insurance. When I do bike trackdays I have never bothered with insurance, just ride within my limits.

With the car though, is it much of a different proposition? I would drive within my limits and not be looking for the absolute fastest lap.

I got a quote for cover for a trackday that I've booked at Spa at the end of May, and to be honest it's laughable what they want to charge for a single day's cover. The quote came in at well over double the cost of the trackday itself, which I don't consider value for money.

So what do you fellas do?

Who did you get your quote from? I use competition car insurance but their premiums have gone up a lot this year for some reason. Last trackday I did I got 15k of cover for about 150 quid with a 1500 excess, but they were very reluctant to give me partial cover. Cover for the full value of the car would have been 300 quid or something stupid.

Adam

I also got my quote from competition car insurance. They want £391 for full cover (incl fire cover) for the day at Spa, with an excess of 10% of the full value of the car, therefore £3400!

They also offered lower payout limit cover of £20k with the same 10% excess for somewhere in the region of £300.

I don't find this figure too palatable, but may have been tempted at a lower figure. the thing is, I am comfortable with my own driving and will be staying well within my limits, but can't account for others on the circuit. Hope there are no nutters with a banzai attitude to overtaking etc.......

Still undecided as whether to insure or not, so will keep looking for better quotes.

That does sound like a lot. Not sure how mine is cheaper, maybe because I have used them lots of times before... Will be interested to hear if you find better. As far as I know there aren't many other companies who do one off cover like that.

There is another company, morris or something.

The MLR days I've attended in the past have had a very good standard of driving, though the lack of overtaking rules at Spa might encourage people to overtake a bit more freely. Last time there with them with the same rules they were great, really good bunch with decent on track manners.

I was quoted £656 for a single day's track cover on the CSL, so decided to keep the Beemer on the road and to get a car i can lap just as fast in, but bought for £6k and cheap as chips to repair.
(Westfield Seight).
My warranty is invalid for track work too.

Eh? On a car that was pretty much designed for the track?

Insurance, yes, but warranty? confused

Yes, bizarre!

Don't know why his warranty would be void as that's certainly not been the case with mine!

Sytner BMW told me that the factory warranty is invalid if the car is taken onto the track.
Unless it was something like a seat mechanism breaking or an electrical problem with the hrw.
If this is incorrect, maybe they can put it right here!

Mate i've openly admitted that my car goes on track all the time, hence why i replaced the sh*t BMW brakes for APs and the dealership had absolutely no problem with it. The car was built to take trackdays and i'm sure your dealership have no idea what they're talking about!
