My kitchen needs a mortar bed floating and then some new tiles/vinyl laying ontop of this mortar bed. Can anyone recommend someone who is good with floors?

Easy enough to do as a DIY job, just get some self leveling compound from Jewsons, mix it, pour it and wait 3 hours then walk on it!

what you want is a bag of screed and a bottle of latex, read the instructions and mix the two together ( hardboard it instead if it's a wood floor), put some wood between the doorways as not to let the mix run into the next rooms, pour over and use a trowel to smooth over ( you can walk across a wet mix with old golf shoes) go for a pint... hey presto a self-levelled floor.

Now for the vinyl.. try to choose a marble design as patterns usually run out with various kickboards, if you are determined to have a pattern, choose the longest and most visible side of the room and set the pattern on that.
the easiest way is to remove the kickboards and slide the vinyl under, if there isn't enough room trim the Top of the kickboard as you wont see this (you will the bottom) and remember the golden rule YOU CAN ALWAYS TRIM MORE OFF BUT NOT ADD ANY BACK ON !!! cut in rough with a hooked stanley blade and just take your time with a sharp pair of scissors. with vinyl you want to be leaving a tiny gap otherwise the pressure against the walls will make it bubble(about the width of a blade)there is no need to glue down. finish off with an extremely thin layer of clear silicone around the edges to stop any moisture getting underneath (as it will grow mould and eventually come through the vinyl.
