why do we buy alfas
Discussion
out of all the better cars i could chose from, and i do believe they are better cars i would never buy anything other than an alfa romeo and it's only since joinin p.h. that i've realised that i'm not the only one.and it's made me think:- why when some of us are having problems and sometimes big problems with our alfas, rather than sell them like we would if it was our house or anythin else that gave us grief,we keep them.we spend a wee bit of time and a big bit of money on them.but why.what makes an alfa romeo owner different to any other car owner.i've got a great wife, friends, job and social life,so it's not like i've got nothin else in my life.i know why i would never buy any other car but i would like to know why you feel the same.
Because they look great, sound great (the V6's especially), drive fantastically (as long as you leave hideously bumpy roads out of the equation) and are a fantastic bargain new and SH here as everyone (for reasons better known to themselves) wants a 320d. The rarity is a massive appeal to me as well, especially of the higher end models. People in Scoody WRX's, 330i's and d's, etc just don't think a 156 is going to live with them. Suprise!

They're great looking - timeless lines
Great bits of design (aesthetically)
Cheap as chips
No one wants them, so the people that *know* love them more
Reliable - so the electrics might have a funny 5 mins, the rest of the car, engine especially is as solid as any other, if not better IMHO
Oh, and as Clarkson said, you're only a true PH if you've owned an Alfa

I have loved Alfas for a long time, but it was only a few years ago that i could afford my dream, they say if you meet a famous person that you love it can be a big disappointment, when i had my first 156 V6 it could not have been any different, she was more than i ever have dreamed.
And now the GTA, it was fun yesterday to make a WRX ( old style ) get out of my way at 120, i wonder what was going though the chaps head, an Alfa keeping up with my flame spitting WRX.

I'm hooked, 2 months into owning a Spider Lusso and I'm loving the little beasty, okay it's 150bhp and quite heavy so it's not the quickest car in the world, but on a twisty A-road ( IMO that's what sports cars are for ) it sounds and handles beuatifully, and there's a crispness to the response from the engine that makes gunning it into a sweeping S bend pure bliss.
My only potential regret was going for the 2.0l and not the 3.0l V6.

for no reason I can fathom I spend huge amounts of time looking at alfas and trying to convince myself that buying one is a bad idea and i would be better of spending my money on a nice VW or Audi or BMW or Merc.
Than I see a pic of a 155 or 156 or 147 or 166 and the whole lot goes out of the window!
