But only if for any reason I am in too high a gear and the revs drop....say if someone decides to walk in front of my car in the town centre. Then for the rest of the journey it's like it's running on 3 cylinders. I've tried turning the ignition off and back on again but even waiting 10 minutes wouldn't make a difference.

I drove 200 miles one afternoon last week without ever dropping the revs too low...and it drove like a dream...so why does it happen. I assume that if it is able to drive smoothly it's not a problem with spark plugs....but possibly a problem with the electrics.
It's a 1.8 twin spark btw.
Can anyone help.

Sounds like a garage job to be honest - let them plug the ecu in and have the fault codes read. Then you'll know what you're dealing with and either be able to rectify it yourself, or find a cheaper mechanic who can.

Hmmm, my Cloverleaf does this before it warms up properly, for about 5 mins. It seems to run on 3 cylinders at low revs until it clears its throat. Diagnostic test picks up nothing, and I changed the plugs recently. Wonder if it's the leads - any ideas?

Thabks for your suggestions. I'm just baffled as to why it only happens when revs drop too low while trying to accellerate. Even though it feels like it's running on 3 cylinders, my guess is that it's related to the fule - or lack of it.

Because I only really use my car to drive 3k miles per year it's not too big a deal. But it would be nice to get it sorted out, if only for when i've got passengers. It's a bit embarrasing if the cars kangerooing.
