Keith Ripp founded Ripspeed, the brand he then sold to Halfords. His sons now run a company called R-Tec in St Albans so if you wanted to speak to the man himself then give R Tec a call. Ask for Adrian Ripp.

Was on BBC a few decades ago, Murray walker commentating, the works, from memory did have a habit of over-using the product he was sponsoring.

I think he did, that's how Ripspeed began, then followed the custom car trend (anyone remember the yellow ad with black text in Custom Car and Street Machine in the early 80's?) as per my earlier post, give Ady (Ripp) at R-Tec a ring. He's a top man and i'm sure he'd get info from his Dad.

Thats caused a scary flashback for me.

At 18 going down to Ripspeed's on the Hertford Road in Edmonton, with cash in my mits. Meeting Keith himself (anyone else remember the black uniforms they all, including Keith wore) and coming out a few hundred quid lighter for the alloys, K&N, seats and exhaust for my Metro, oh yeah and a copy of David Vizard's - Tuning the A Series Engine.

Keith was driving a Merc SLK and think his plate was K R1P.

The Ripps have lots of plates R1PPY, R1PPS etc etc- Did you ever tune your Metro following the advice from Mr Vizard?

Always remember his basic rule 'Get air in, get air out'.

Had the air filter with the cone adapters to increase airflow, changed the manifold for better flow etc etc. So did Mr Vizards basic stuff but then got above the mere 18 y/o I was then.

Funny thing was when I moved house a couple of years ago I found the old book in a box, complete with my homemade celethan covers to prevent oil on the pages

If I can scan it I'll post a photo of the car, the dodgiest Orange Metro you would ever have seen c/w Cibies LOL

The last car I remember Rippy running in Rallycross was a BDA powered Fiesta.

When 'Hot Car' was still going, he often featured. Hot Car became Fast Car became crap - another Lax Power clone - shiny wheels & subwoofers = tuned.

Can't see it myself (damn company firewall!) but if that's the bit where Keith goes base-over-apex at Mabbs' Bank at Lydden Hill, I not only remember it...I was marshalling at Paddock at the time! Not a lot left of the car IIRC.

Yes. IIRC it's the one where Murray Walker has just remarked how well it is going!

BTW I had a Vizard rear silencer on my Midget - the size and weight of the Belgrano but claimed not to sap power. I also own up to popping into Ripspeed in Edmonton - but didn't ever buy anything from there
