Okay, I'm in the process of looking for a cheap Land Rover 110. And when I say cheap, I mean cheap – about the £2k mark.

I need it to be good at towing, good at carrying building materials, good at pulling down trees, and good at being abused without complaining too much. I also need power steering 'cos my girlfriend struggles to drive Land Rovers without it.

What I don't need are particularly good bodywork, road manners, fuel consumption, or even performance. And I don't need more than three seats.

But do I need a V8? While I know that even a n/a diesel will do the job perfectly well, is there any point in having four cylinders when there's an option of eight?

Mmm, V8 Hi-Cap...

£2k is low even for an early 110, I'd suggest the Autotrader as they always have a good selection. You may get one that needs a bit of work for the MOT, is that an option.

V8 would be nice but for £2k you may need to take N/A diesel or 4 cyl petrol.

I can ask around some landy contacts if you like.

You might be surprised how much 110 prices have dropped lately. I've seen a V8 Hi-Cap with MoT advertised for under £2500 (waaay up north), and been to look at a few. All were MoT'd runners, starting at £1150 for a tatty n/a diesel hardtop with PAS up to £2350 for a rough TD Hi-Cap. The only thing that stopped me buying one was the idea of a V8...

But if you know anyone selling a likely candidate (any engine), please post details.

do you really need a 110, as range rover prices have crashed over the last few years, although discovery prices are fairly high and 90 prices are daft....

a coupkle of k range will have the v8 probably auro and maybe leather and air.... fir the same price as a knacked 110...
