Hi
Thanks for reeding.

its my girlfriends car and its a 1.6 its the ECO TEC Astra. On a 51 plate.
so its all fine with no problems, she goes to start it and it just wont go. The cam belt isnt broken as i can see the cams moveing as i try to start it.
But is dos sound like its trying to fire but probley oney on 1 cyinder. I have checked that the spark plugs are are geting a spark as i thort it may be the coil pack at 1st but all 4 seam to be starking ok.
But she did say that it did have INSP on the dash for a little wile but couldent reamber for how long. Im gessing that means that the car thinks it needs a service or something? so do you think that, that has something to do with it as it probley dos need a service soon and maby its gone into safe mode or something?

any help atall, il try anything to fix it. Thanks again Martin

I know this may sound incredibly simple...and dont mean to patronize. But maybe ya battery? Sounds similar to what i had not so long ago, turns out the Battery was screwed and needed replacing.

no no i wouldent say it sounds patronizing at all, but no deffantley not the battery, as it happends she thort the cam belt had broken because it seamed to turn over so fast so the battery is very strong.

i think its time to plug it in to a computer.
thanks anyway

It might be worth checking out the fuel pump relay, my other half's car has had an intermittent problem with cutting out and not restarting , i've changed the relay and touch wood it's not happened since.

Insp light does mean its due a service but wont affect the way the engine runs.

If its turning over really fast on the key it sounds like its lost compression so check that first.

Did it overheat at all first? (poss head gasket?)

If compression is ok it could be the crankshaft position or cam sensor as this can also cause a non start and is common on ecotec engines.

Failing that although you can see the cams moving is the timing belt still tight? It could have jumped a few teeth if its slack and this can cause the same problems as the belt snapping ie bent valves.

Hope this helps you get back on the rd.
