Having read Stig's bit on G50 gearbox serial numbers, I thought it was about time I found out what I have.

The gearbox is ex David McDonalds car 14FC, and was in that car when it participated in the trip across the US (Hot Rod magazine Power Tour) in 2001.

I've always thought the ratios were a bit short.

Anyway it appears that my box is a G50/03 with a LSD.

So now onto the questions:
1) Does anyone know what a G50/03 was fitted to and whether it has particularly close ratios?
2) Are the oil requirements for LSD boxes different from standard boxes?

I have a G50/03 as well. It came from a 1993 Porsche 964 C2. My box doesn't have a LSD (which was standard on the 964 AFAIK) so I would guess that yours was from a 964 which had the LSD added as an optional extra. The 964 Turbo was fitted with a G50/52 (which is what USCANAM and jschwartz have I believe) and they came with the LSD as standard.

I don't know for sure but I would guess that the non-turbo box had shorter ratios than the turbo G50/52. YMMV.
