Vaux dealers part-ex cars - all go to auction?

In my hunt for a cheap Corsa for the wife, I've been phonin gthe local Vauxhall dealers and found they have a policy of auctioning their part-ex cars and wont sell them to the public. Two even said they could get more money for them if they were allowed to sell one to me.

Is this a Vauxhall imposed thing? or are the dealers all just taking an easy option ?

I'm after a 5dr 1.4 with about 60-90k miles, just the sort of thing that someone would part-ex for a new model.

Its more a convenience thing, they probs have a list of contacts in the used car trade who come and take some off them, rest that I guess aren't shifted within a few days are sent straight to auction.

You'll probably get the same response from any major dealer - reason is that they don't want the hassle of a private punter chasing them weeks later because the car they bought for a grand has an electrical fault - they'd rather get rid (get the money they gave in part ex) and use the space for another motor...

You're probs best trying to get something in the private ads in Autotrader!

wont be worth their time messing about with anything they cant put on the forecourt. I was talking to a dealer last weekend he said its policy that any cars that come in group must have a full check in the workshop. That includes any cars that employees buy pre forecourt too

One simple reason why most dealers dont sell trade cars to the public

'The Sale Of Goods Act'

Because in the eyes of the law 'sold as seen no warranty given or implied' mean jack sh1t and that 'favour' comes back to haunt you, hence most only deal with recognised traders and auctions
