i just bought a TVR vixen S2 1970 for a restoration project.
it's an LHD car (US importation)
i wonder what is the earth polarity. i have the wiring diagram but i can't read the polarity
on my car, all cable are unwired
Thank you very much

Pente vous établissez la polarité en mettant un mètre de volt des poteaux de batterie aux châssis celui que l'élasticité de doesnt une tension sera la terre

Slope you establish the polarity by putting one meter of volt of the posts of battery at the frames that which the elasticity of doesnt a tension will be the ground.
ERR..
Well that's what you get when you google translate it!

With a meter establish continuity from either the positive or negative post of the battery down to the chassis, the one with continuity will be the earth/ground.

Thank you for your answer but my car is not plugged to the battery.
i want to plug it but i don't know the polarity for the ground/earth.

I think "positive" is the ground but i'm not sure and my other brtitish car have negative earth.
so if someone can help me...

Hi,If it helps, I have a 1969 vixen S2 and it was originally positive earth.
Providing you do not have a radio in the car you should be safe enough to connect the battary as a positive earth. The battery terminals are slighty different in size so you should be able to get a clue by matching them one at a time on your battery.

I presume you want to try to start it??

does the car have its original dynamo and voltage regulator?

Cheers Roy

Thank you Cheers Roy

i didn't know some vixen have positive earth. I think mine is posistive earth too.
i will match the battery plug and verify some details.
My car have genuine dynamo and voltage regulalator
i think i try to restart it this morning.
the wire to the earth is red and the other is black

Thank

Not sure what electronics you have, some components may not take kindly to reverse polarity, for example the dynamo might get upset. Perhaps rather than starting the engine you would be safest just connecting it with everything isolated and then switching on something that is polarity sensitive - cooling fan, perhaps. The starter obviously will turn the wrong way if you get it wrong, but if you just plug it in with everything connected it might be too late by then.

My Fairthorpe (1959) runs a dynamo and a regulator and is negative earth. From memory you can repolarise a dynamo to convert it from positive earth to negative earth. (I just bought a new one as the cardboard box of bits my car was delivered with didn't have one !)

Google brings up some good articles on converting from positive to negative earth.

You can also buy an alternator that looks like a dynamo if you want to keep things looking original but have decent headlights etc :-)

I think i will convert polarity in my car, most wires and connectors are in bad condition and it will be more easy to renew with négative earth. My "RPM meter"(i forgot the name) was not plugged and it is a negative earth (!!!)
i think i must only change starter (it take + at the earth) and dynamo (for an alternator with regulator)

Please can you tell me which alternator can fit on this motor.
