I have finally found PistonHeads and the Ultima forum. Having received a few emails about the site, can not believe it took me so long.
I finally finished the 7.0l Ultima and have been just finishing up the EFI tuning, but got it to a show in LA USA.

Awesome looking Powerplant!
I have visited your site many times in the past (saw the Green CanAm that you delivered to San Francisco). Are you an "official builder" of the GTR?
I live in the Bay Area (California) and will most likely want to have my GTR built for me according to my specs on the Engine/Trans/Interior/Cockpit Cluster.
My primary problem is time - I will be working on an Aircraft Build Project at the same time, so time is going to be an issue for me.
I've seen one site where a person steps through his entire build process from his garage. It does not seem amazingly difficult to do - just time consuming.
This person selected a 1999 LS1 V8 that was taken from a Corvette (C5). I would personally NEVER use a 1999 LS1. They were notorious for excessive engine oil consumption. In fact, GM even admitted the problem and declared it a "Design Issue". This is why I waited until 2000 to purchase my C5 - AFTER they solved the "Design Issue". I never had an engine oil problem with my 2000, but I know of many 1997-1999 owners that did - not all of them, but too many to warrant the use of that model year in a GTR.
I digress...
I have found that Ultima provides most (if not everything) you needs in terms of "parts" to complete the GTR. However, me being the speed-merchant that I am, I will have "other" requirements for speed (engine/trans package), interior, and dash-cluster. Nothing too drastic from stock Ultima, but I will need a few extra gauges on the dash.
I would also like to get your opinion on "sound proofing" the cockpit as much as "possible". Given some of the internal chassis and body panels that I have seen during the build process, I do have some ideas - but I do not yet know if they are truly feasible, or if they would reduce cockpit noise enough to warrant spending time, or money on the issue. Hopefully, you could offer some expertise in this area of concern as you have built these cars before.
Are you located in the Bay Area?
Do you have a baseline build cost estimate?
Can you do accurate PCM/ECM Tuning on engine such as LS1 V8, LS6 V8, NorthStar V8, etc., as part of the build cost?
NOTE: The re-mapping of the PCM for the LS1 can be a real "issue" if not done correctly. I know this from personal experience with a C5 (2000 Corvette). There are a couple of OBD-II software packages that can be used to do engine monitoring while re-mapping of the PCM/ECM is taking place.
The Spark Mapping, Fuel Mapping (long and short term fuel trends), Engine Speed Controls, etc, etc, all have to be re-mapped according once the engine is dropped into the GTR.
There is a software program called AutoTap (I do not work for them, or get compensated by them - I just know their products work well). They are at www.autotap.com. They have a custom LS1 module that can assist with getting the tuning down to a science on an LS1 GM V8. You could run it on a Laptop, or a PDA. The software will work with any GM, or Ford production engine and even Chrysler. But, they do have a special module for the GM LS1 for tuning purposes.
I've got many more questions, but I'll deal with them later! Thanks for showing up on this site - I think that California Ultima Purchasers would be glad to know that you found this place.
It would be nice if California guys/gals could get something going - I've got a feeling that this is an amazing car.
