Anyone interested in going halves (or thirds) on a 2nd hand Ultima - I'm thinking about 001 which is advertised for sale for £12k ........

Perhaps you could be one of the thirds, keep it at your place, 15K in hand = winner all round.

Well, for 22,500 you can have the car, or if you can get a couple of friends together, it could be yours for 7,500 each. Bargain!

Mondeoman, why do you want Ultima 001? have you seen it? I dont believe it is quite as capable as the current style of car
Maybe it will be worth something one day but l think you will be better off with James's offer, especially if you go thirds and keep it at your place.

Haven't seen it - just liked the price !

If I could raise the cash I'd buy as new as possible, as I can't be arsed (at the moment) to build over a period of time....

No-one yet though has said anything about being interested in sharing ownership

Well, mine is a 1996. Only 4,500 miles on the clock too. Bargain!

Shall I wrap it up for sir, or will he wear it?

Even at 12K it may be thought expensive as it is a shadow of what the car has been developed to now, being an early kit car assemblage of parts. l mentioned the car's availability to the factory when it first came on the market and the response was a derisive snort which l took to mean that l would be better off with what l had. There again the first ferrari must be worth a great deal more than it would be without the badge. Just goes to show what a badge is worth.

Hmmm.. "derisive snort.." and phone calls to people to remove comments from threads that questioned the car in any way (bookatrack forum), followed by the thread being removed..

either Ultima are overly defensive or just stuck up their own botties.

What ever it is, I cant help think that it will have an adverse affect on publicity.

Yes, of course the 001# car is somewhat outdated now, but they should sound a bit more enthusiastic about their beginnings, and support whoever bought the car.

(I will now sit and wait until this comment gets removed by the censorship/PR police..)

I think you will find the call asked for the comment to be substantiated or withdraw. You will have to draw your own conclusion from the result.

I heard through the grapevine that the car was far from 'original' and that some of the changes, aledgedly, were not for the better!
Still, to be able to buy the first of a kind is still a good oppotunity for somebody. I would personally, try and return the car to as close to original spec as possible and see it as a long term restoration project.

I must add, this is only verbal info as I have not seen the car. Also, I do not recall what changes have reportedly been made nor who made the changes. The other thing is, the said changes may not be for the better in one persons eyes, but, make it a better car in anothers.

Are there enough caviates and disclaimers for everyone in this post, I can add more!

Edited to add - LRDriver, I have no idea why I sarted this post with your quote? I'll try and come up with a response to it when I can think of one.

mondeoman, stig paid more for his engine than that whole car ,I had a lengthy discussion with the last owner, and indeed the car has been chopped and changed over the years But is currently running a 350 chevy mated to a renault turbo box I think I still have some pics in a folder some where I`ll see if I can find them later But at 12k that`s a lot of track car, go on get it bought you know you want too

Don't confuse $ for £'s. My engine certainly didn't cost that much!!!

...... and how else can you get that sort of performance for that sort of money??? Unless it handles like a pig of course, in which case its just a waste of cash (and perhaps the fact that its been on sale for almost a year now should tell me something ......)
